Boycott the vote!

Led Zep eats it hard...  It is all about
Black Sabbath

I'll praise the other bands on their influence, but overall skill, pioneering, AND influence??

I was a teenager back in the early 80's and Van Halen RULED then especially with Roth as the frontman!!!  Christ every 80's hair band had a farking guitarist trying to imitate Eddie Van Halen, usually doing a shit poor job I might add.

I saw VH back then too and they were AWESOME and LOUD!!!  I might add there was lots of PIE to be had too.

POISON and Bon Jovi are the definition of "Chick" bands.

Please tell me that your "lol" means you're joking.  Van Halen great, good, or bad aside (personally I like them) - Eddie Van Halen is far from "Pretty".

I guess Tommy Lee is a pretty boy for marring Pamela Anderson.

If I were in Eddie's shoes then, I would have hit Valerie in the pooper too and posted pics.

Indeed - probably still hot, but that doesn't prove that he's pretty only that she has bad vision or bad judgement.

(And you can stow the "cowbell" comments! )

But of the choices in your severely limited poll, I'd have to say THE BEATLES - if only for their unparallelled influence on artists and the entire industry then & since...

I went to the same high school as two of them (slightly later though).  I've even seen a yearbook with them in it, but it was too well-guarded for me to 'acquire' it.

Of the ones listed, it's a toss up between the Stones and Zep, depending on your perspective.

But the poll is too narrow; there are a lot of decent arguements for Rush, Pink Floyd and The Who, among others.

Even with their latest effort?  They're losing it, IMHO, which is a helluva shame.  They rocked 10 years ago.

I like their latest disc. The tight, controlled notes are new to them, and its cool. Black album is my favorite, but I bought Garage Inc. because "Turn the Page" is one of my favorite songs.

Besides, we can't say that every soong a group ever made counts towards how cool they are for all time. Look at the music the Beatles made in the past ten years. Oh, wait

Rush
Led Zep
Pink Floyd
Black Sabbath
Rolling Stones
The Who

I'd have to flip a coin on those choices.  The others on your poll are good, but suck ass compared to these.

My vote is for Led Zeppelin.  The Beatles a close second.  Seen Led Zeppelin twice, first just before the release of their second album and again around '72 and also seen Page and Plant on both  tours.  The last one had to be the best.  Main floor seats about 5th row right in front of the stage.  They played a few tunes from every album. and some new ones too.  Noticed a lot of "young people" there along with us "old rockers".  Too young to have been around for Led Zeppelin.

edited for spelling

For sheer musical talent, the Beatles. Wait... you said ROCK band, right? I draw a big distinction between Rock, and Pop, defining Rock as being harder, nore aggressive, and "more serious" than Pop.
Greatest Rock Band... Greatest Rock Band. Either the Who or U2.
Not the Rolling Stones They have the World's greatest rhythmn section and the Faggiest lead singer. Jagger is a Huge turn off for me.
Not Led Zeppelin. To me, if you've heard the first four albums, you've heard all you need from LedZep. Tricky Rhythmn Song #78, #80, etc.
And while I like Queen and Van Halen, I agree they don't belong on your list. Personally, I'd replace them with Hendrix and SRV.
I just realized that if I'm going to diss the Stones for Jagger's faggy dancing, in all fairness, I should diss Queen and the Who.  Freddie Mercury actually was gay, it didn't bother me so much as Jaggers pouty lips and dancing. and didn't Townshend's excuse for getting caught with child porn sound a little Clintonesque?
One final note re: U2. I like Edge. He's inventive, and keeps his mouth shut, for the most part. Bono, if you are gonna preach, go back to being a Christian. I like that message better.
