Our Remington rep. said that they paid around $4,000,000 (it might have been $7,000,000) to paint Rick Mast's car green and write Remington on the hood in 1997. I can't imagine it costs less now. They decided it wasn't worth it. If a gun company thinks NASCAR wasn't worth the money, I can't imagine that GoDaddy could justify it. Nascar is failing to put asses in seats and viewers on TV. The cars suck to look at , The big retarded fin on top of the rear window looks retarded . At one time, NASCAR fans were very loyal to companies that sponsored cars. I used to be a big fan, but NASCAR appears to be the typical family business that the idiot grandson is now in the process of running into the ground. For years, they've made changes to it that fans didn't want while ignoring what they did want. Attendance and TV viewership is down and they still are blaming the economy. They alienated their loyal southern fans at the expense of going after northern and western fans. A few years ago, they were pushing hard trying to get minority fans. It was almost funny watching that train wreck. At this point, I'm not sure they can turn it around, but getting back to basics would be a start. Get rid of the circus atmosphere, concerts and firework shows at every race, get rid of the silly commentators like Darryl Waltrip, go back to racing stock cars instead of what they're racing now, and lose the upper management that is incompetently running it. It's not their market. Sponsors leave all the time and new ones come in. They were betting on Danica being more popular, but that didn't happen. Mt Dew gave up a huge part of the races on the sport's "most popular driver" last year and Nationwide took over. But there was not thread on that.
But here you guys are, talking about Danica even though most of you hate her. But... you're talking about her. That's the point. Sponsors will jump at the chance to be on her car. |

They've also done a lot of rebranding to be seen as more LBGT friendly and upped the charity participation to appeal to that market. Danica was a byproduct of the old Candace Michelle/Sports 'n Boobs mindset that has all pretty much left the company. |

View Quote I see everyone saying this, but what exactly do people think GoDaddy is looking for? They want small business's to create websites. I know everyone sneers at race fans and thinks they are beer swilling inbred hicks clinging to guns and religion, but in actuality they are more likely than the national average to be small business owners. NASCAR and Indycar are both good fits for GoDaddy, but with as stale as both series have become they are not bringing in new fans, GoDaddy has reached about everyone they can with those two series. It's time for them to spend that money elsewhere, they want to expand in Asia a primary sponsorship in Sprint Cup just isn't a great fit for them right now. I've got a feeling they will be sponsoring a pair of Haas cars next year, just not as primary sponsors. |

The only racing I watch is the odd sports car racing I can get (Speed World Challenge). I haven't seen it on recently, but when it was on lunchtime every Sunday my ass was on the couch with a beer and a sandwiche watching the regular sports sedans then watching the sports cars come on the next hour.
50 minute races, road course, production cars I can buy in the show room modified for racing. |

I've got a feeling they will be sponsoring a pair of Haas cars next year, just not as primary sponsors. To be fair, NASCAR has a very broad fan base. I have been to Daytona three times with my little camper and always spring for the "Geico Premium" infield spots (grass, electric, water, cable etc). Our camper is out of place with the others as most are some serious RVs, most costing well into the half million dollar range. Those fans also have skybox seats and drivers for their RVs (who drive to the track, park, set up and go to a hotel for the week). Those people are not the target for Go Daddy. If you walk down the road, you find the people in tents who are making this their family vacation. They are also (yes, I know I'm stereotyping here) not the target for Go Daddy. I've been to Daytona, Darlington and Bristol and the middle ground is in the stands which are the people that come for the day to watch the race. The stands are empty most of the time. There are a bunch of companies which have a market that covers a broad spectrum and that's why it works for them. Go Daddy doesn't have a market in NASCAR. It has nothing to do with Danica. |
