I seem to play video games in spurts. im 33, full time job (dont play during the work week cause no time). not married and no kids (but a g/f of 4 years). Sometimes i get the chance to play 5+ hours if all the stuff i need to get done is done and the g/f is out with her friends/family/ect and im at home. I dont watch much tv and ive been a gamer since NES came out new.

Don’t get me wrong, web forums are cool…fun to surf, and great if I want to relax and burn up a little time. I’d say I mess around with arfcom 2-3 hours a month or so. I was talking to a friend the other day about forums and there were lots of guys on there talking about how they can post dozens of posts a day What!!?? Dozens of posts every day/night in front of the computer just spent on forums? How do those guys do it? Do they all live in their parents basements, or in apartments with no responsibilities at all? I’m assuming that they are all either single, or have wife’s that just don’t care that their husbands are glued in front of the computer for that long every night? Dozens of posts? That’s almost a full shift at work! If I stayed parked in front of the computer making dozens of posts a day……my place would look like a total wreck, I would be 300lbs and pale as hell, and my wife would divorce me. Where do people find the time to “chat” 4-6 hours at a time every day? Talk about being physically inactive! To each their own I guess…… View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Between guns, cattle, rental units, and remodeling a house I spend around 40 hours a week on hobbies.
If my hobby was games, I'd do that. |

You worked 140 out of 168 hours in a week for multiple years? I just plain don't believe you. Now if it was week on week off or similar, sure, but that's a far cry from 140 a week. It is impossible to live a healthy life if you spent 28 hours not working per week consistently for an extended timeframe. Somebody always makes a claim like this in these threads and it always sounds ridiculous. The logistics of this claim are just totally absurd. Heck, I remember a similar claim involving dairy work in a past thread and it might have been you there, too, but I don't remember it being as blatantly ridiculous. |

I can easily spend 4-6 hours a day on video games. I work from the morning to the afternoon M-F. I have plenty of free time in the evenings to relax and blow some steam off with my roommates.
It can be more stress relieving than people think, but it can also be stress inducing. |

Pretty sure that strictly adhering to that schedule would kill you, not just age you. I wouldn't say kill but it's not healthy. I've known a few others that have done it. It's not sustainable and has to be a perfect storm to do it. We lived on the jobsite in campers. I installed milking equipment (air comps, vacuum pumps, takeoffs, stalls, chillers, boilers, etc) in 14 dairies in 24 months with a limited crew. Most crews spend 3 months per job or more on a bigger job. I don't really care if people believe me, I'm just making the point that long hours aren't healthy, productive or sustainable for long periods of time. Pretend that I said 63 hours if it makes you feel better. |

So this is basically a Destiny thread right?
I play video games, probably more than I should on occasion. I don't sleep much, and from the time my wife and kids go to bed (8-9) I've got 4 or so hours to fill. I go in spurts, for awhile I'll play video games, then i'll take a few days to catch up on tv shows/movies. Every once in awhile i'll get some other random hobby that will occupy my time (i've got hobby ADD.) I normally don't play a video game at all until everyone in the house is asleep though, so it's not taking time away from anyone. |
|
Computers and gaming used to be my only hobby beyond school and sports. There is plenty of time to play if that is what you're interested in. We don't all want to be social every chance we get. Was also never over 140lbs, so all gamers are fat like thinking all women are minimum 9 hotness based off TV shows and movies. For a while I had a system I really liked where I'd alternate gaming and dating days. Now being married with children I tend to only get much gaming in when the kids are doing their homework and the game I play can be paused so I can help them on problems as they arise. This means most multiplayer is out, but that's fine. Can play minecraft with them afterwards, build and explore together - can see a generation of civil engineers coming out of that game.
Also, if you're buying games at $60 you're doing it wrong, wait for them to be at least 50% off, or if you're like me and have a backlog of games, nothing less than 75% off. $5 is the point I find it hard to pass up if it is something I have been waiting for. |

I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore gamer by any stretch of the imagination, but I've been playing since Wolfenstein 3D came out, and typically go in phases of playing maybe 8-10 hours a week and then not playing at all until something else catches my attention. I can still play and do stuff with the kids, hit the gym 4-6 days a week, and work full time. I just don't piss away time watching TV instead. 4-6 hours a day is definitely kind of crazy, but 1-2 hours is pretty doable.

I enjoy gaming, (XboxOne, PS4), but I haven't played a single minute in months. Had a lot of fun with Destiny, but just can't find the time. Seems like it's easier to find time in winter when everybody's shut in.

I have a GF, house, full time job, no kids, no other outside commitments...
I'll admit since I was about 16 until about 6 months ago (24-almost 25 now) I would spend several hours a day and whole days on the weekends playing games. Things got neglected around the house, my body went into the shitter, not much social life... ect. GF didnt really mind, however I know she prefered me not playing. Lately however I seem to have gotten bored with the gaming. I only play a few hours a week now. None of the newer games hold my interest anymore. I also have been busy with the house, going to the gym 4-5 times a week, running, and hanging out with the GF and friends more. I've also taken work more seriously as well. The ungodly amount of overtime at work probably is a factor too, My GF last week stated I have really matured lately so that could be why. Guess it just took me a few extra years. Don't get me wrong, there are a few games I have my eye on that are coming out, but I wont be binge playing them until winter when there isnt much else to do. |

So being a gamer, I can tell you where they get the time. No kids No time for personal hygeine No time to clean the house Go to work, come home, play, eat, play, sleep, wake up, play, go to work. Some of the crazy ones don't even work, and some are on welfare or live with parents. Weekend: Play eat play eat play sleep Who needs family, holidays, or a social life? All that stuff takes time. No, most gamers are NOT like this, but the addicted ones are. It can eventually start to ruin your life. View Quote The personal hygiene thing is just retarded, what's that take, like 20 minutes a day? Also, don't make the house dirty and you won't need that time to clean. The whole basement dwelling neckbeard thing I'm sure exists, but I don't know any. Just a bunch of normal people in good shape that have no problem getting laid and having a social life. I don't know how many hours per day you consider "addicted", but 4-6 hours is like an average day for me and most people I play with. Not every day, but often enough. Life's too short to work your life away 80 hours a week. Fuck that, I'll be here doing what I like to do. |

I used to play for 3-4 hours in the evening, but that was my entertainment. I didn't have a cable or satellite subscription. After wife and two kids, my play time has gone to zero. It took almost a year for me to notice my BIL stole all the games from my cases when he moved out of our basement. Ironically I would've given them to him if he'd just asked.

I was a gamer all through college and my early 20's.
Even after college it was nothing to work all day, come home and shower and eat, then play 4 hours on a game. It wasn't really a big deal. Now I am married, have one kid and another on the way, and doing my best to run a business. I am lucky to get in 30 minutes every month. I can't focus on them like I used to either, even if I get a block of time to play I can always come up with something better to do with that time. As far as entertainment goes though, gaming is about the cheapest per hour. |

What!!?? 4-6 hours every day/night in front of the TV just spent gaming? How do those guys do it? Do they all live in their parents basements, or in apartments with no responsibilities at all? I’m assuming that they are all either single, or have wife’s that just don’t care that their husbands are glued in front of the TV for that long every night? 6 hours? That’s almost a full shift at work! If I stayed parked in front of the TV gaming for 4-6 hours every night……my place would look like a total wreck, I would be 300lbs and pale as hell, and my wife would divorce me. Where do people find the time to “game” 4-6 hours at a time every day? Talk about being physically inactive! To each their own I guess…… View Quote Let's say a person gets off of work, does a few things and goes to bed around 10 p.m., there is certainly time for a session like that. People are replacing television with video games because they're far better entertainment than what Hollywood puts out and they're cheap. Hardly anyone ever really kept track of how many hours of TV they watched though. |
