The 2nd is a emergency escape hatch from tyranny and a bulwark for self-defence. Anyone who is willing to scrap that, is clearly fucking stupid if their motivation is ignorance or fucking evil if otherwise. Out of all the other issues, I can see none more deserving of single-issue voting than the 2nd. |

I think Fred let every one of his supporters down. All through the big buildup towards his announcement to run, folks were all pumped up...only to see Fred announce, then appear as the most un-enthusiastic candidates I've ever seen.

Thompson dropped out for the same reason Paul will. Most Republicans don't want a constitutionalist with libertarian ideology (aka, Conservative.)

I am not a single issue voter.
Ron Paul is pro-life. He's delivered over 4000 babies and introduced pro-life legislation. Ron Paul wants to abolish the income tax and replace it with NOTHING! Ron Paul wants to REDUCE the size of the federal government and restore more power to the states! Ron Paul wants to deregulate our industries and FIGHT illegal immigration for real by getting rid of the free social programs for the illegals. No more "birthright" citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants. Ron Paul is the ONLY conservative candidate left. And he's as conservative as it gets! He knows the Constitution inside and out! The only single issue voters on here are the ones who want more war, war, WAR. Forget it, man. Let's take our country back from the evils of Fascism and Socialism. VOTE RON PAUL!!! |

Well, this is depressing.
You can't deny that getting in too late was an issue. Sure, he got a huge bump when he first announced, but the problem was that by the time he got in, Guliani and Romney had already been annointed as the folks to beat. The MSM never got behind him as a legitimate front-runner, and for better or for worse, you need the MSM behind you as a candidate. If they don't recognize you as a front-runner, you don't get the free airtime, you don't get in the debates. People don't see you on the news and they don't support you. Sucks, but that's the way it is. His other problem was the way he handled his campaign right after he got in. Right off the bat, he more or less decided to hang his hat on S. Carolina. He needed to be freakin' Superman after he announced - be in every debate, be on every Sunday morning news show, run hard in every caucus and primary. And he didn't do it. The whole Iowa/New Hampshire thing is, IMHO, ridiculous; why should two piss-ant states have so much sway in deciding a candidate? But, again, that's the way it is. Huckabee would be done already if not for Iowa. McCain would be screwed without N.H. In this day and age, I don't think you can sit out the first few. Proof of this will be Guliani in Florida - he's been a ghost everywhere but there for the past month. I think he's in for a rude awakening if he thinks he can get away with skipping all the early states and relying on Florida. |

That would be great if the American people truly had the will and spine to follow through with the threat the 2nd poses to the government. The 2nd is largely an empty threat at this point. Exactly when are you going to say "thats enough" and fight? When your government takes your stuff and gives it to other people? Too late for that... When your government spends more time concerned with what will get them elected instead of what they were elected for? Too late for that... Who the fuck do you think you are? You have no idea how my opinion was formed, but let me assure that it was not based on what "the media" that I don't even watch or read says. I made that statement based 100% on the fact that I was very excited for Fred to run in the months before he finally announced, but that excitement started to wane as I watched other candidates launch their campaigns while Fred continued to play coy. He had a golden opportunity to jump into the race when there was a bunch of excitement and buzz about him. Momentum that he might well have been able to ride into the primaries, and he fucking blew it. |
