OK that's what I thought but I wanted to be sure.

I understand that http:// has nothing to do with DNS and is just a simple way for your browser to understand it needs to hit default port 80.

An http record(pointer, whatever) would be the pointer in your domain name space that tells an http request within the ar15.com domain where to go.

Only in Al Gore's internet.

There is no such thing as an "http" record in DNS.  The nameserver you're using doesn't care whether it's "http","ftp","https","nntp", or whatever - to look up the address for the site, your local machine does a gethostbyname() call with just the domain name - 'ar15.com' or 'www.ar15.com', etc.

Sounds like the problem is maybe in the ARFCOM webserver itself (or perhaps a local traffic director or squid proxy, if they're using anything of the sort).  Could be a wacky 'Rewrite' or 'Redirect'.

Or, you could be seeing problems that are related to a different networking layer - for example, a router or a caching proxy somewhere inbetween you and ARFCOM could be munging your browser's GET requests, or the data returned by the server.

When this happens the only thing that can fix it is to have the entire internet reformatted.

Do we have to shutdown the internet and boot it to dos or can we do it while it's "hot"?

You guys need to fix the http record for the AR15.com domain name.

www record points fine but the http record takes you to a "site down for repairs" message.

It's been like that all week.

It would help those of us that don't use favorites( I don't know why I don't) to get to their favor sites.

THX

"The http record"?

Yes, I see you are a fucking DNS wizard!!!

ETA:  Damn, about 100 people beat me to it.  Oh well, I couldn't help myself.

We have a pair of load balancers from F5,   crash anytime there is vulnerability scanning on the network.    I've not been too impressed, but I'd be willing to place blame with the idiots that run them.

I sometimes get connection refused errors when the site is really busy but no DNS errors.

"http records" is a new one on me, too.

He's not the only one. I've been having the problem all week. I've deleted my cookies and history. I've hit reload multiple times. All to no avail.

I have modified the screenshot above.  Using Netscape 8.1 I get this error often when there are over 6000 combined users online in the counter.

At work, and at home, using the latest IE I get the DNS Error page...
