Quoted: An http record(pointer, whatever) would be the pointer in your domain name space that tells an http request within the ar15.com domain where to go.

Only in Al Gore's internet.
There is no such thing as an "http" record in DNS. The nameserver you're using doesn't care whether it's "http","ftp","https","nntp", or whatever - to look up the address for the site, your local machine does a gethostbyname() call with just the domain name - 'ar15.com' or 'www.ar15.com', etc.
Sounds like the problem is maybe in the ARFCOM webserver itself (or perhaps a local traffic director or squid proxy, if they're using anything of the sort). Could be a wacky 'Rewrite' or 'Redirect'.
Or, you could be seeing problems that are related to a different networking layer - for example, a router or a caching proxy somewhere inbetween you and ARFCOM could be munging your browser's GET requests, or the data returned by the server.
