I personally find the terms 'left wing' and 'right wing' as useless terms left over from the seating arrangements of the Estates General during the initial period of the French Revolution!
The media love the idea that Hitler is at one end of the political spectrum and Stalin is at the other! It makes them feel soooo comfortable in the 'middle.' But they're not in the middle, are they?
But what was the real differences between the National Socialism of Hitler and the International Socialism of Stalin and Mao?Of course, as a side note, there was never anything remotely 'international' about either the Soviet experiment in communism, nor the Chinese on-going experiment in communism. Both Stalin and Mao pursued international policies that would have made Catherine the Great and Ghengis Khan proud of their offspring!
The Political Spectrum should run the gamut from pure anarchy on the one end to pure dictatorship on the other. Simple? Yes!
I am much, much closer to 'pure anarchy' on this scale, since I always trust the people a whole lot more than I trust the government!
What was is that Jefferson (a closet anarchist if ever there was one, read his views on the French Revolution 'if there were but two living souls left to begin again the French race, I would be content') said - 'If given a choice between government and no newspapers and newspapers and no government, I would not hesitate to choose the latter.'
Well, same here! We just need better newspapers!
But I live, eat, drink and vote Republican! Because that party is (1) closest to my political views, and, most importantly, (2) can win a general election (if they feel like it).
