Shit happens, but you'd be working out of a hole when you came in for the interview.  Not a deep hole, but a hole.

You don't ask to reschedule to X day. You explain the fact that you are sick, reaffirm that you are more than happy to make your scheduled interview, and ask that in light of your illness and out of consideration for others, would they be interested in postponing the interview by a day or two.

Explain that you may be explain that you are probably still contagious from the virus for a few days and don't want to spread it around....so you will still come in but are apologizing ahead of time for not being able to sit too close or shake hands

So he can pass his disease onto you and your other employees? Studies have shone that if you have something like strep throat that is contagious and has a 5-10 day affection rate you aren't doing your boss any favors by being dedicated employee. You might miss 5-10 days because of it but if you come in while you're contagious and spread it your boss ends up loosing an average of 30 days worth of labor when you factor in how many other people you spread it to.

Just remember the most important thing about this interview is the position.  Issues that may delay or increase their effort evaluate you are not good. Rescheduling at the last minute is not good even if legit.  I'd go, show up and without detail indicate you are sick and be very mindful of santitation (bring handwash and consider forms of personal contact).  If you get the whole office sick that would be an epic story, but more likely you demonstrate dedication, toughness, and consideration.  The toughness matter is big to me......lots of weenies in this world.

I think there's a difference between showing up with a bit of a cold, and showing up with a super infectious stomach virus, or actual influenza.  If you are really sick, and you show up and infect half the workforce, you aren't doing you or the employer any favors.

May actually be advantageous.  Once had this same situation in which someone politely requested to postpone the interview to a day of my choosing.  So we rescheduled. In the back of my mind I certainly had the notion that this individual was a bit flaky perhaps even lying.  Was all the more noteworthy to find out that I was wrong and built a level of trust that you generally don't find right off the bat.

Why would you want to waste a good vacation day on a horrible sick day..

Why? Because it isn't about you it is about having some consideration for others who work in close proximity to you. But I guess that is why some people refer to the "ME Generation".

I'd look at it as a part of getting to know the prospective employee.  Are they milking it?  Are they wasting my time talking about their symptoms?  Or are they simply telling me their situation and working to come up with an effective Plan B?  There's nothing I hate more than working with someone who enjoys poor health.

I agree on the first part.  We don't get "sick leave", just personal time off that is what others would consider "vacation days".  So, we do have people come in with cold/sniffles because they're not "too sick".  No one has come in with the flu (yet).

As for the writeup/investigation part, if needed I'd just puke on the policy-maker's desk.

I fucking hate it when people show up to get others sick. One time this happened the guy doing our benefits presentation got over half our office of 30 people sick. It was absolutely fucking terrible and one of the miserable times of my life.

I once had to repair a computer for our accountant who was very ill, she came in to work anyway because she was a "trooper". After being in her office for several hours and having her cough all over me it was no surprise when I had to drop a large sum of money the next day at the urgent care center. I hate these "troopers" who show up for work with contagious shit and think they are doing everyone a favor by their being there. When I have to drop a days pay at an urgent care center because my sinus are so swollen they changing the shape of my eye and making my contacts pop out, you are not doing me a favor or anyone else.

Bullshit.   That type of attitude only works if you don't work around other people.

One person shows up to our office with the Flu and gets 5 other people sick.   Now, you have 6 people sick and out of action.   You show up sick to our office, and they'll send you home.   We get unlimited paid sick days.   Its a good policy, because it keeps sick people out of the office who would otherwise show up, because they need the money.

I wouldn't have any problem with someone rescheduling an interview because he was sick.    I don't want that funk.

This one guy got half the people that work in that room sick with pneumonia. I personally was coughing up blood for a week and a half and took two different types of antibiotics. The Doctor also, prescribed getting a chest X-ray.
