Quoted: Don't twist my words, I said nothing about child molesters, or their what I think their punishment should be. Prior to 1968, one could be convicted of say "Armed Robbery", and upon release could purchase a firearm. Now if said citizen can't be trusted with his rights, why should he be released? My point is that, when speaking of tightening the requirements needing to be met before someone can exercise their rights, one must be very cautious. It won't be long before you are the one that does not "meet" the requirements.Quoted: Quoted: More reason to do away with "ex-felons/felons" losing their rights. The man paid his debt with jail time, he is square with the house. I feel the same way, either you have paid your debt to society, or you have not. What was the felony drug charge, a bag of weed when he was 19 years old. Really? What about felony child molesters? Are they square with the house once they get out? |

An anonymous tip had led to the investigation, which eventually resulted in the prepper’s home being raided by 150 armed officers, helicopters, SWAT crews, armored vehicles and even excavation equipment.
Outstanding use of tax dollars - no mention drones or if the KeyHole satellites were used. ... the anonymous tip claimed Terry Porter was “getting crazier and crazier” because he was stockpiling “10 to 15 machine gun-style firearms” at his home in Sharpsburg [MD]
The FBI recovered only “four shotguns, a .30-30-caliber rifle and two .22-caliber rifles” with no machine guns in sight. The prepper was not even home at the time.
So a completely wrong anonymous tip gets a Maryland police department and FBI to spend a quarter million dollars worth of equipment costs and labor to find four shotguns, and three rifles. Thankfully the guy had a 20 year old drug conviction so he was a prohibited person and therefore the military invasion was justified. Meanwhile how many schools were left unprotected? How many streets were not being watched? How much of that money wasted on this and similar operations could have been used to help expand jails or prisons to hold violent offenders? We would have far less crime in this society if we behaved in a rational and reasonable manner. What a total waste of time. |

Article is full of WTF Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Like what? Maybe a company of armored infantry with air support responding to an "anonymous tip"? Maybe storing food, possessing firearms and criticizing the President being justification for an investigation into domestic terrorism? Maybe having an underground shelter? I remember Civil Defense films and pamphlets recommending and instructing how to do this. Maybe the surveillance cameras? Those sure are suspicious. Only bad guys have them. One schmuck with a couple of old guns and a big mouth and this is the response? This was a warning to anyone who is taking responsibility for their own well being, anyone who may criticize the people or policies of government. A large, over the top display of force directed at one guy who is just like many of those reading this. How many people will be willing forfeit their 1st and 2nd Amendment (and others) rights to avoid the threat of this happening to them. I did a little search. In June of last year, Mr. Porter was involved in a civil suit against a neighbor who's Pit Bulls had killed his Black Lab. Anonymous tip, my ass. He had a pissed off neighbor bring the world down on his head. The government was happy to oblige based on Porter running his mouth and bitching to the undercover about Obama. It was an opportunity to display a willingness to use force. All of this occurred before Sandy Hook and the current 2A debate. I would expect to see more of the same in the future. None of it gives me hope for the future. |

FBI has reportedly characterized bulk food buying as a “potential terrorist activity.” Bulk food buying as recommended by FEMA and the DHS. Maybe we need to register our Preps with the .gov. I think they recommend only having 3-5 days worth of food stockpiled. If you have more than that you better watch yourself |
|
While this was not illegal, the investigation led police to the
discovery that Porter had a 1992 felony drug conviction and was therefore barred from owning firearms. Are we winning the war on drugs yet? I sure do feel safer now. |

I live roughly 20 minutes from where this happened. My best friend lives right down the street from where it happened and called me to tell me what was going on. The guy is a local welder who builds rockcrawlers. His felony possession was when he was 19 and he had a bag of weed. The guns in question are all old fudd guns that were given to his son from his grandfather. They had swat, local pd, and FBI there and had all the roads shut down. They even called in a backhoe to rip up his bunker.

Some people are more than stupid. |

Any chance the evidence can be thrown out, since there was no probable cause to search his house in the first place?
