Knowing how to operate multiple vehicles is never a bad thing. Not just that, you learn about how motion works. Most people are so childlike and willfully stupid that teaching them how to drive a stick is maybe number 127,892 on the list of things people should be forced to learn. If I was going to start forcing people to do stuff, I would have them read "1984" over and over until they actually understood it. |

Did not ride much, mostly due to a disdain for "helment hair" Jeep > motorcycle |

What an idiotic question.
There is no way in hell I would transport my two-year-old on a motorcycle. And considering I actually have THINGS in my truck... no. How about not "forcing" anyone to do anything? Sound awfully liberal. |

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. I wouldn't use the word force so much, but it would be awesome if it were a required skill to obtain a driver's license, even if it was just the 16 hour MSF course.
Where I live there are a great many weekend riders, so folks are somewhat used to seeing motorcyclist, and do look for them sometimes. Unfortunately you hear about folks getting killed pretty often during riding season, I haven't seen one yet that the majority of the fault belonged to the rider... |

View Quote Using a stick doesn't give you a better understanding of your vehicle, but experience just driving alone does. I've driven in snow, flash floods, hail storms, fog, desert, jungles, and amphib operations while crossing rivers while in the service and on my own. Experience, is the greatest teacher, not a style of driving. |
