My $400 1988 Toyota Corolla 1.6L for my mill car. (Paper Mill is stinky...and a 60 mile round-trip is easier when the 'Yota gets 30.5 mpg). ETA: No, that's not my car in the avatar. |

What's with everyone giving a shit if what they buy is American made?
Does arf not believe in global division of labor? Think you're doing someone a favor by buying American? |

The fact that you're framing this question as foreign and domestic tells me all I need to know. GM is domestic and is a commie organization - and so are the other union shops. Fuck them.

As opposed to, say, a Ford Fusion which is manufactured in Canada and Mexico? Do you think Ford Inc....which is a global manufacturer with plants all over the world...is keeping all their profits inside the USA? People who get pissed off at those who buy anything other than Ford, Chevy, or Chrysler have no fucking clue how the automotive manufacturing world actually works. |

Tell that to the Texans that built it and fed thier families with the paycheck. I will never ever own a foreign badged vehicle where the profits go overseas! Unlike the "Big 3"? Who do you suppose takes the profit, if any, out of a publicly traded company? I rest well enough knowing that I support the UAW as little as possible with our American made Titan and Honda Odyssey. I hate Fords and have ever since I owned one in the mid-90's, the only one I ever had. I like GM well enough, but won't buy one given the screwing bondholders and shareholders were given simply to benefit the UAW and a bunch of blue states. That said, I'm willing to consider a FIAT owned Ram once I can see the new small block diesel and get a sense of what sort of mileage it will get. |

What the fuck is this shit? My Toyota's were both built in the US.
Are they foreign? Do you think the "Big 3" are anything other than multinational corporations? |

Where has GM and Ford been investing money lately? In China.
So don't give me that "support America!" bullshit. |

Ford has new plants and new investments in India, China, Thailand, and Canada.
Profits overseas tend to stay there because the US taxes the hell out of overseas profits. My Acura's transmission was made in Japan, EVERYTHING else was made in the US and the car was assembled here. So I suppose the 'keep the profits in the US' crowd are OK with GM and Chrysler but not Acura, right? Get over it, cars are an international business, where the headquarters is doesn't mean anything. |

I guess all I can say is the fucking foreign badged vehicle owners are totally clueless when it comes to domestic economics, or any economics for that matter when it comes to the bottom line.
And for Christ sake, the clueless replies in this thread back me up! Where it's made isn't the big deal, where the money goes is! |

And the high percentage of American content of the car (meaning all the bits used to assemble it...and the Honda Accord has more American content in it than most of the "domestics" that are rivals) didn't end up paying, say, the American workers and companies who manufactured all the parts? Talk about not grasping economics, pal...you're the poster child. Frankly I couldn't care less who makes the damn car...I'm looking for features and reliability in a package that meets my price range. I've learned over years owning and working on cars that some makes deliver what I want better than others...regardless of where they are made. It just so happens that Honda's Accord fit the bill for me when I was last ready to buy and it just so happens that the car is assembled in Ohio and made with more American content than most of its competitors. |
