Yeah I didnt see any fuses in that hookup.. plus no mention of how big that inverter is.

According to size.  And capacity.  They only had the voltmeter on the unit to measure each one.  Full charge in a flooded cell is about 12.9-13 volts.  Flat discharged is 12.0.  These are no-load, stabilized voltage measured with the cells resting for 4 hours.  The charge is based on the density of the electrolyte since discharge at both the cathode and anode absorbs the sulfate.  PbSO4 batteries use plates of lead and lead oxide.

You need to think about a cascade system, otherwise you will be in a hurt when all go down.

They need to look into getting an alternator driven by wind.  Most have built in regulation.  It needs to spin at 4000 RPM, meaning gearing.  Figure on a 10:1 with 10 foot diameter blades, if you can find an old water pumping windmill.

All batteries discharge over time, more so if greasy/dirty.

From http://www.trojan-battery.com/Tech-Support/FAQ.aspx

Battery Myth: Storing a battery on concrete will discharge it quicker- Long ago, when battery cases were made out of natural rubber, this was true. Now, however, battery cases are made of polypropylene or other modern materials that allow a battery to be stored anywhere. A battery's rate of discharge is affected by its construction, its age, and the ambient temperature. The main issue with storing on concrete is that if the battery leaks, the concrete will be damaged.

They're making tons of mistakes and I like Mike. He's got the wolf mentality. He's not talking about being "rude," like that has any relevance when your life is in danger. He and the small guy understand you don't give strangers your food out of your kindness, you let them find their own food or starve.

The guy who went to jail is obviously an actor and I'd imagine will steal something and run or get kicked out soon enough. They don't interview some of the people, maybe for a reason. They're plants.

If anything, this show should be an insight on how stupid people will act during the SHTF, and how to stay away from that.

Their water filtration system sucked donkey balls.  Why?  It allowed the filter to completely drain.  That won't do much in filtering.  You need to keep a constant depth over the filter beds, otherwise velocity profile isn't consistent.

This is best done with a broken loop higher than the desired water level.

Also, the charcoal they used? Worthless.  Activated carbon isn't hard to make, especially for water purification.  It can be done in an auto-retort.  Just shovel glowing coals into a steel drum, then cap it off and wait for it to cool.  Wash with water to remove ash and voila, great purification charcoal.

I missed the first 30 minutes...viewing it on the encore.

Factory roof had that "sawtooth" profile with vertical windows for maximum sun light collection.  That would need such a roof drain.

Like others have mentioned, the show pretty much loses all credibility as a SHTF scenario due to the lack of firearms. Some random weapons loaded with Simmunition would have been cool.

I don't like the machinist or the handyman.

The contractor said he did 6 years for trafficking, but didn't say what he was trafficking. Drugs? Exotic birds? People? Either way, surviving in prison for six years is no easy task, and I bet his survival instincts are the sharpest of the group.

I set a season pass and will continue to watch.
