He was always a hack. He just changed sides. For some reason, he got credit for being a "great" general. He was always a turd. Anyway, Powell's "recommendation" flew in the face of common sense and basic military competence. Powell spent his later military career trading on his standing as the "first black" this and that to be handed opportunities his talents and experience did not merit (Never served as a division commander, because he was handed political jobs...that's like commanding a battalion without ever having commanded a company. ) Powell is a political hack. He has no further use for those who groomed him, so now he has turned as their utility is exhausted. I personally believe he supports Zero out of racial solidarity. There is no other explanation for such an about face. "Gratitude is a disease of dogs." TLDR: Powell was an incompetent general who was promoted based on politics and his race. He was spared the normal General Officer career progression because of his political status. He has switched sides because it no longer is to his benefit to support those who spoon fed him his career. |
