when dealing with elements 57-71, and 89-103, are you counting F orbital on top of D in 6s and 7s? or separately.

I'm sorry for being question intensive, I've been shown to do this the wrong way.

moving across 57-71, you are filling the 4f orbitals. At this point, the 5d's are not yet filled. Once you hit 72, then you start filling 5d's. At 81, you've started filling the 6p's

Look at this website to explain the orbitals.

F orbitals can hold 14 electrons.  The last two atoms shown in the lanthanides and actinides are part of the D block elements.

The formula to determine how many electrons in each ring (she'll) is 2N^2. N is the number of the ring. So the first ring has 2 ---> 1^2= 1, multiply by 2 = 2. The second ring is 2^2=4, multiply by 2---> 8...and so on. Remember, before you fill up the current ring past 8 electrons you must put one in the next ring as the valence ring can have a max of 8 electrons...

i got it now. its just that the table i was using had D block with 15 elements  instead of 14.

Yeah, i had a crappy table. found a better one im in better shape now thanks.

I heart you guys. <3
