Yes. Theme parks are needlessly and wastefully cluttered with things that aren't roller coasters.

Question came up on another board regarding charging your phone while at a theme park.

About half the people think it's ok to just plug into any random receptacle they find scattered around the park.  There thoughts are that since they paid to get in the park and there is no rule or sign forbidding it, it is alright.  Some even justify it by saying it is only a fraction of a penny worth of electricity, so no harm / no foul.

I believe it is theft.  Since they do not have permission to use the receptacle and the park has pay to use charging stations, they are stealing power from the park.  The amount / cost is not relevant.  Theft is theft.

Thoughts from the hive?

Do you use the bathrooms more than once or lean on any furniture or structure?  If so it's theft.

Are you using their trees for shade?  Are you sitting on the grass instead of standing?

Did you take seconds longer to exit the ride than others?

Are you moving briskly to the next ride to get in more ride time from all the rides?

Did you take a picture or a selfie without paying the park royalties?

This. Portable single full charge packs are quite small and work wonders.

If you've got 16 coasters and still have the room, a water ride is permissible.

Bring a portable generator so the OP can bitch about how it's theft for using the air of the theme park.

If you took an extra napkin, used extra soap or flushed the toilet more than once you more than likely cost the park more than charging a phone.

How about charge it fully before you go and then stay off your phone and actually enjoy the park you're paying to visit?

even at say a 1000 people charging phones in the park at once
in the grand scheme of things, I dont think it would even be noticeable compared to the power required to run a giant place like that

What kind of lame ass phone do you have that can't go several hours without recharging at a theme park?
If you're using it so much the battery drains, why are you at a theme park?

It is generally implied that things such as electricity, water, and garbage expenses are free to use or rather covered in expenses at any place of business.

Unless it is noted that something is forbidden, to call it theft is just looking for an issue where none exists.  You're trying to make a moral issue where even your 'victim' doesn't feel victimized.

There is no way a fully charged phone should die while you're at a theme park, unless you're using the absolute shit out of it (like watching movies on it or something). And if you are...why?

Ever been to Disney World during the busy times?  Yeah waiting in line isn't fun.

No. Cedar Point is way better.

Hope so...going to Cedar Point next week!
