What about at airports at non-designated recharge areas? (ie...random plug in...)

Or the coffee shop? Mall? etc...

Is it not ok anywhere?

If there's a plug and I need juice...I'm using the plug.

Yeah I don't understand why someone would be charging their phone there.  Do they really need their phone that bad at a theme park?  It's been awhile but I always used to go to Cedar Point every summer as kid and young adult.  I remember standing in line and you would talk to your family/friends with you about everything and chat with the people around you about where they were from.  I suppose now everyone just stands in line with their faces buried in their phones.

In their defense, a lot of people might bring their phone to keep the strangers from talking to them.

Hey if they wanted no one to use the power outlets they would cover them or block them from use.
Link Posted: 6/30/2015 11:06:20 AM EDT
How's this for Reductio ad absurdum:

Imagine you're going to an amusement park and you pay $50 to get in.

As it turns out, you're the only guest that the park has that day.

Also, you find out that your phone is completely dead so you decide to spend your time at the park charging the battery.

Now, from the park's point of view, do you think they'd rather you spend your time charging your phone at pennies-per-hour or costing them dollars-per-hour on the rides?

No, it's saying that Florida sucks so bad they have to give shit away to get people to come there.

A.) Who wants to sit around an electrical outlet when you already have to wait long enough to get on one danged ride?
B.) Chances of theft go up.
C.) You're at a fucking park. Leave the phone at home or off. The battery should be full from the car charger, there should be no reason for an empty battery at a theme park where you're there to do shit, not be on a phone.
D.) Sadly, people will pay money to get into a park to be on a phone.

im not sure why people would be sitting around charging their phone at a theme park anyway.. you would THINK, they would have fully charged gadgets when they arrived, and other than filming, why would they need to be running them down??  id think they would be having fun, and not sitting there for a long time and waiting for their phone to charge...
now fucking airports..... those fuckers SHOULD have 50 outlets side by side for people to charge their electronics. even IF you arrive fully charged, its not unusual to be trapped for 6-10-12-24 hours, on airplanes and in airports with layovers and such. iv charged and used my laptop many times on airport power outlets.

For the rented charge lockers you are paying for the ability to leave your phone while charging.

If you don't mind wasting your time waiting for your phone to charge it is free.

Hmm which state can you leave Disney and 30 seconds later rent a machinegun or three and have some fun?

I sat by an outlet in a Disneyworld souvenir shop last year charging my phone. I even asked the clerk if was ok. She said that there were designated free charging places in some of the restaurants, but that is was fine to use the one there so long as I wasn't blocking anyone. Disneyworld might have a different view on cell phone charging since most everyone is constantly on their phones there using the Disney app to navigate, update and check fast passes and make meal reservations. It's really become part of the experience.

if the park had a problem with it, they would discourage it.

the amount of electricity used by people charging their phones is probably not even a rounding error on their electric bills.

They give you the ability put your phone in a locker, while it's charging.

Personally, I think it's a stupid tax on people who forgot to bring a fully charged phone with them.

There is no way a fully charged phone should die while you're at a theme park, unless you're using the absolute shit out of it (like watching movies on it or something). And if you are...why are you at a theme park?

Question came up on another board regarding charging your phone while at a theme park.

About half the people think it's ok to just plug into any random receptacle they find scattered around the park.  There thoughts are that since they paid to get in the park and there is no rule or sign forbidding it, it is alright.  Some even justify it by saying it is only a fraction of a penny worth of electricity, so no harm / no foul.

I believe it is theft.  Since they do not have permission to use the receptacle and the park has pay to use charging stations, they are stealing power from the park.  The amount / cost is not relevant.  Theft is theft.

Thoughts from the hive?

Do you differentiate between an Amusement Park and a Theme Park?

If the outlet is in a publicly accessible space, and not locked, placarded, etc, then how would it be any different from a water fountain.  Similar to a water fountain, I would assume it is their for guest service, convenience, comfort, etc.
