Hi all,
I met Kirsty Alley on a flight from Toronto to LA.  I'm a pilot and asked to visit the cockpit (pre-9/11).  I have been doing this for years on Canadian airlines and have gotten to stay for landings in the jumpseat half a dozen times.

Anyhow, it was a 767 and behind the pilot in a jumpseat, trying to hide behind a newspaper, was a woman.  I really had no interest in her and was talking with the pilots about where they did thier training, telling stories, etc.  We were coming up to Vegas and I was pointing out to the girl I brought to the cockpit Hover Damn, Lake Meade and the strip when the woman who was behind the pilot comes over to take a look.  We are all crammed behind/beside the co-pilot looking out, the girl I was with and Kirsty in between us.  I did a quick double take, knew it was someone familiar, but could not place here immediately.  We stayed and talked in the cockpit for another half hour and she joined in the conversation.  I think it was right around her breakup time so she probably got special permission to ride in the jumpseat rather than first class.

Kinda cool.

Met Rosey Greer (sp?) in an airport.  He was sitting there playing guitar waiting on a plane.  It was during the OJ trial and he was on his way back from visiting OJ.

Sold Tony Stewart a bunch of fishing equipment once.  Didn't recognize him.  He and another guy were wearing shirts with their racing team on it.  I asked them if they were in NASCAR and they said, "Yeah."  I then asked "Who's your driver?"   He was cool about it, but the other guy (I think crew chief) got a HUGE kick out of that.  Said something like "Some guy named Tony" and then I realized who he was.

Ken Dilger used to come in all the time.  Great guy.  He made a point to remember everyone's name and he was very polite.

My wife used to be a cashier at Gander Mountain.  Kenny Chesney was in buying some stuff.  He came through her line.  Paid with a credit card.  It said "See ID" She verified that the name on the card matched the ID, but it never dawned on her who it was until after he left.  One of the girls that works with her said, "Well, did you get his autograph?"  My wife, still not realizing who it was said, "Yeah, on the credit card slip."

Hadassah Lieberman on a flight from DCA to DFW.  Sat next to her in row two, port.  I was there first into my window seat.  As she and her huge bodyguard boarded, she reminded the muscular giant to, "...don't forget to tell the pilot!".  I made him and his heavy fanny pack instantly.  He rode with the cattle...and I felt sorry for the folks sitting next to him.  Big dude.

She was rather snippy and unfriendly.  She read her briefing book for most of the flight.  She was extraordinarly careful to ensure I didn't peek.  She didn't like the very nice lunch fare...requesting just some fruit and bottled water.  As we deplaned in Dallas, I passed her on the jetway and politely wished her well...by name!  The look on her face was fargin' priceless!

Dr. Edward Teller.  Very interesting fellow.  I peppered him with questions about the Project, the Teller-Ulam design, Slotkin's terrible accident and horrible death, and all sorts of other "stuff".  His little "escort" lady was a trip..."Do you KNOW who this IS?"    "Why YES, my dear, I responded...I certainly DO!"

Several flags and generals...but who gives a damn.

Best folks I've sat next too were returning Grunts.

WRT Hollywierd celebs?  None that I recall.  Who would want to ride next to one of those asshats for four hours anyway?

Liar?

These folks might be famous but most of them do use commercial planes, not private jets.  I know John Travolta is qualified on commercial jets but I'll bet he doesn't charter one every time he needs to fly.  Plus most celebrities look different when someone isn't styling them.  When you live in California, they're around.

I've only sat next to one but have been on a number of flights where they were pre-boarded and so on.  Not such a big deal.  It is nice to chat with one and find they're normal too, just have a talent that happens to make them famous and easily recognized.  And my work brings me into contact with them from time to time.  By and large they're just like you and me, except have really recognizable faces.  My buddy couldn't get over that Mel wasn't tall yet a huge star...

FWIW, also on a plane with the Bee Gee's back when they were famous.  Complete dick-heads and working it for all it was worth.

Travolta owns his own comercial jet.  My ex nextdoor neighbor who is a pilot flew for him a few times.

Not only that, but his house sits next to an airstrip so he can pull the plane up to the door.

About 15 years ago, for some holiday or other, I flew from DC to Boston to go visit some friends.  I got stuck sitting next to a Kennedy who was a state politician in MA.  Archibald Cox, the prosecutor from Watergate, was just a few rows away, and one of the senators from MA (not Kerry) was up in the snooty section (I'd call it first class, but with him in it. . . .).

I'd better not write what I was thinking for the whole flight.

Musta been a big plane to have a Denny's and a parking lot, or did you misread the subject?

One of the earlier posts reminded me though.  Working First Aid at concerts I met a bunch.  Brooks and Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Keith Urban (he's like 5'4) Cletus T. Judd, Tracy Lawrence, Toby Keith (big dick if no one else is around drunk and just wanted ass) Kid Rock walked by us and actually stopped to shake our hands. He was cool, I worked the AC/DC concert but didn't get to meet them.  I tried to get assigned to more but never could.  I always forget about them cause they were work and we always stayed busy as hell.

Years ago my Dad worked for United, and he and my Mom would go all over on the "space available" tickets. One trip to Hawaii, my Mom got bumped into 1st class and ended up sitting next to Phil Collins. At the time Collins was the commercial spokesman for United, but my Mom had no idea who he was.  He was wearing some multi colored leather jacket and my Mom started talking to him about it  and other things, then my Mom asks what does he do? And he replied "I'm a Rock music singer".
My Mom was having a real hard time believing this short, fat , old bald guy was a "Rock Star" () and started kidding him about it and even said "Well, then you could afford to give me that pretty jacket" () Which he replied it was on loan from a wardrobe company.
When my folks were getting off the plane in Hawaii (Collins was going on to Japan), my Mom says to Collins "Good luck with your singing career, I hope you make it"

On their return flight, my Mom was reading the United "in flight" magazine and there was an article about Phil Collins being the spokesman and United sponsoring his tour, and in the picture Collins was wearing the same  multi colored leather jacket.

Tim Nehering (redsox)
Bret the Hitman Hart
Jim "the anvil" Neidhardt
Eddie Guardado
Greg Vaughn
Adamn Dunn
Edge
Major Gunns (tylene Buck) (And damn they're big)
Matt Stairs

And the guy in all of the sports blooper reels that runs through the outfield fence, His name is Rodney, he's in the Cincinnatti Red's Organization.  Great guy to go drinking with

Travolta owns a Boeing 707 and a Gulfstream IV. He lives in Ocala in a development with a private airstrip big enough to land a 747.

Here's his jet. He flies into St Pete/Clearwater airport every once in a while to visit the scientology HQ.

Okay, here's my plane/celebrity story.....

I was once on a business trip and (I believe) in Denver, Colorado, and was getting late for my connection.

I was rushing through the crowded airport and was dodging people left and right and I ran right into a guy.

It was O. J. Simpson.

My mouth must have dropped open, as he kind of grinned and dodged left and was gone.

I sure wish I had had the quickness to ask him to autograph my pocketknife.  (It was before the ban.)

On the plane - Goldie Hawn and James Whitmore about 73 or so.

Doodles Weaver when he was getting a flat fixed at the corner gas station.  Willie Shoemaker ditto.

Went to school with Bonnie Large and Jim Kopp (Google them and see why they were memorable), Ronnie Howard

Have met Doris Day, Mae West, Buzz Aldrin, Jack Warner, among other H'wood types.

Here's Ma Danby and her Aunt with some guy you might recognize.

Ma Danby's Dad went through Law School and this was at the graduation ceremony.  He was trying to be inconspicuous (hah nice try) as the Grads were the Celebs, but Auntie Doris was not one to let an opportunity like this get by her.

Well, it had nothing to do with planes, but I did meet a celeb at the range, so here goes.

I was in Tempe, AZ visiting a friend and he took me to an indoor basement shooting range in Phoenix to try out his .45.

We were shooting in a lane in the basement, and in the lane next to us there was a small crowd of guys shooting various guns, including full auto machine guns. One of the voices was familiar, but neither of us could place it.

We went upstairs to check out and the owner of the range asked us if we knew who we shooting with down there.

Turns out, it was Reggie Jackson, and he is a big gun nut on a break from spring training camp. The range owner said he had zillions of guns and was a regular during spring training.

Who knew!

John Popper.  He's very much into firearms as I understand it.  Heard he has a huge collection.  He used to shoot at the indoor range down the street from where I went to college in Doylestown, PA.

Never met any celebrities on airplanes.  I was working security for the New England Flower Show about 10 years ago and met Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.  Asked for his autograph and he was very good about obliging.  Couple of friends of mine used to work at the local movie theater and used to run into him there as well as Liv Tyler.  One of them remarked to Liv how she was even more stunning in person and she seemed genuinely flattered.

Saw Carly Simon once while working another security gig at a high-end retail store.  But didn't know it was her until after she left.

John Popper is a huge gun nut....a buddy of mine works concert promotion/security/set-up and got to know him pretty well. He always had a bunch of guns with him on his tour bus. When he cam to Buffalo, they would generally go to Canada to hit a few shows, and he would literally leave his guns at my buddies house, since he couldn't bring them to Canada...weird someone in entertainment who is really into guns....
