former honda tech. currently have a honda element. 140k on it. nothing but oil changes, one set of front brakes and one set of tires. not even sure what my  wife's civic has but it's only a few years old. ive never had anything but maintenance on around a dozen hondas.

all my subaru experience has been with wrxs and stis. lots of blown motors and trans

So were those near 100% moron caused problems?

Hey why the name calling man. Subaru should have built thier cars a little better so they could handle 30psi on e85!

i have 215k on my 99 OB . did the dreaded head gaskets myself.  thing i have done in 30k are a new wheel bearing, HG and change oil. Still gets about 20-24 mixed.

the newer ones have a lot more electrical stuff on them. otherwise the basic are the same.

We have to do the wheel bearing/head gasket fixes on our '07 Outback but aside from that it's been a great car. ~115K on the thing at the moment.

I have 6500 miles on my 2012 Forester.

The first oil change was easy.

Oh, and don't forget your "FANBOY" detail

My Car: 2012 STI. 13k miles, no issues so far? (No mods except for front lips and mudflaps, I do not drive like a jackass.)

Wife's car: 2010 Outback Sport. 56k miles. Awesome.

Mom's car: 2002 Forester. Bought used. Did timing belt with dad @102k, told him he should do the externally leaking HG's then, he didn't do it. 118k, did head gaskets, replaced with STi MLS gaskets. Runs fine. No other issues.

MIL's car: 2012 Impreza. Came from Japan with a leaking brake MC. Replaced under warranty. No issues after that.

i was under the impression that the WRX/STI are the only subarus left that are assembled in japan

The BRZ is as well.

97 civic with 215,000 on it and has been trouble free for the most part.

Most of the minor items I have had to fix have been very easy to work on , outside of the cramped spaces at times.

96 Outback with about 160,000.
Generally trouble free until just recently, currently trying to figure out if it's worth repairing .....

Head gaskets

Shop wants $2100 for job. Not sure if a 17 year old car is worth that. Been pricing out parts to do myself or buy a junkyard motor.

67,000 on my 09 Forrester. Nothing but great things to say about it. The one problem I have had a was a cracked condensor on the AC unit--it was 3000 out of warranty. A call to Subaru and they took care of it for me.

My wife drives it as it is a safe car for her and my son, its fantastic in winter conditions. It also hauls a mteric shit ton of stuff as well. We pack a family of 3 and a dog, with all of camping essentialf for a week every summer with room to spare, and we're not minimalists.

i had 190k whne i did mine. not too hard and no really specialized tools.  pull it out, put on stand and pull the heads, check for flatness, and slap it back on. i did mine i 13 hours straight. first one i have done on a subaru so it took longer because i had to read the manual. if i did it again, i bet I could do it in 8

if the body and rest of the mechanicals are good, i would do it. subarus really keep up their resale value.

94 Integra GSR 250K, I've put 60K hard miles on it. I've had many Hondas in the 350K range on stock internals.

Honda all the way.

Negative. The (edit: US Market) Outbacks, Foresters, and Tribeca () are made in Lafayette Indiana. Imprezas (incl. WRX/STI) and BRZ's (FT86/FR-S) are made in Ota, Japan.

2001 Honda CR-V w/ 92k miles.

Aside from regular maintenance (brakes, fluids, plugs, etc.), it needed a new O2 sensor at ~75k miles.

I'm impressed, considering it's spent quite a bit of its life traveling at 75mph and 3k RPM.  Great little SUV.

ETA: The fluid change interval for the rear diff was messed up in the owner's manual, said something like 80k or 90k.  After about 45k miles, the car starts making weird noises and driving funny.  Other owners reported similar problems.  Replaced the fluid, which is easier to do than an oil change, and the problems went away.  I try to change it every 15k miles or so now.

Awesome, did not know that....  As per this page, Tribecas, Outbacks and Legacies are the only ones made in Indiana.  The rest are made in Japan.

I have a 2010 Subaru Outback.  I have never had any problems with my car.  I have 57,936 miles on it.  I love my car so much.

The only thing I wish is that I had is snow tires but that isn't even a big deal.  I do have Michelin LTX/MS tires right now and they have performed great in the snow the past two winters.  I have had these tires for the last 28,000 miles and I still cannot see any visible wear on them since I bought them.  I couldn't be happier with my car or my tires.

Our first Forrester lasted about 150k before being totaled by a f250 running a red light, and t-boning my wife.

Our second Forrester was bought about a year and a half ago and is only at about 15k.... We have had no significant issues with either and are good little cars for the wife and 2 children.

Looking at truedelta today and it seems a lot more people have subaru problems than Honda. And the severity of the problems are worse too.

Had an 84 GL wagon 4x4 great not an issue.

Now have 2013 outback with 5000 miles.  No issues.  He OB for 2013 has a timing chain and shouldn't have any head gasket issues like previous models.  It is very quiet, ride is nice but handles super good too.  My odyssey and civic are way louder and less refined.   The 2013 OB and I believe 2012+ foresters have the same engine and possibly drive train.  Good cars and are GTG.

I love my 13 outback. Traded in my 08 wrx in for one due to gas prices and needed more room for camping and Im eagerly waiting to see if they release an STi version of the BRZ which I'd also be all over.  I've never had an issue with Subaru as a company and they just seem to fit into what I want and need.

The '02 RX300 is now using more oil than gas and it would total it (on paper) to fix the problems.

SIL has a 12 OB. Looking at the 2.5 6-spd premium. I'll wait till summer to use my IMBA discount.

Anyone use Edmunds' preferred dealer network?

I have an 08' Tribeca with just under 60,000. Had transmission work on it at about 40,000. I'm thinking this summer I will get rid of it. Not really a huge fan of Subaru's. I think next time I'll stick with the non lesbian cars.

very nice. how's the new 14s?  im actually considering that for the wife next year when her sentra lease is up.

with that said, my 11 WRX hatchback just got its oil change at 51,000 miles yesterday.... yes 51,000 in 2 years, 10 days of ownership.  here's a list of things that needed to be worked on.

1.  faulty gas door spring, replaced by dealer at 4k miles
2.  passenger side front blinker, replaced by dealer at 4k miles

that's it!

stage 1 tune at 5k miles
full stage 2 bolt ons (entire intake and exhaust system replaced, cold air intake, intercooler, turboback, etc.) at 30k miles

still going strong! (knock on wood)

I can recommend it based on my limited time with mine.

If you're an acceleration/power guy you'll need the turbo though. The 2.5 isn't very sporty.
I like the 14 better than the 13 though.

The WRX is an awesome machine.
