One of many variations:  As the guy on bottom extends his hips and pushes his legs out, the guy on top will have his elbow hyperextended and eventually broken. Way before that happens, he'll have the bursa sack bust (a fluid sack that lubricates the elbow). It's pretty painful, and inexperienced fighters on top give up the arm all the time so it's pretty easy to pull off on people without grappling experience. |

Ain't gonna happen in that picture. The guy on top only has one free arm, and that arm is what is holding him up (otherwise, he's going to roll over, and then have his arm extended and broken). There are a few things you can do here, but punching the guy in the nuts isn't one of them. Incidentally GBT, you said you were in DFW area these days? There are a number of places you can sign up for brazilian jiu-jitsu, and almost all of them are free for your first class. I've always been a stand-up fighter myself, and it was a real eye-opener how helpless you are on the ground against someone who modestly knows what they are doing compared to you. |

Once the guy administering the arm bar sinks it in correctly the other dude can't do anything. The pain and resulting "broken stuff" cloud any attempt at countering. That being said, there are things to do before it gets to this point. An untrained person doesn't do well in this situation. I've seen many guys stand up and drop the guy doing the bar on his head/neck KOing him. If it's being done to you it is a good idea to tuck that elbow into your stomach and try not to get your arm extended. |

Yes it's a demonstration. But you'd be surprised how "stupid" people are to give it up like that. A lot of armbars work from the "guard". With the "closed guard", the guy on bottom has his legs locked around the other guy's back/waist, and actually controls the position better than the guy on top does. What inexperienced people will do in an attempt to break the lock (which tires out the back pretty quickly) is PUSH with both their arms on the other guy's chest. This is what is called "giving an arm bar to the other guy". Once you've extended your arm and positioned your weight on it, it makes armbarring you very quick and very easy. Grab their wrist, bring up your knee against their elbow and tricep and push out with your hips and you are already putting painful pressure on their elbow. Bring your other leg over their shoulder (to push them onto the ground) and use your other hand to pull their arm straight, and you break the other person's arm. |

Oooooooh,
The broad in the white(lookin' good if i may add) was BINKIN' that other chick's head up! The beat was a good track--I like how the producer cut the sample and looped it three times over when the chick in the blond threw those 3 "hooks". But hell she connected I've seen a whole mess of catfights in my time. I always like a girl that canthrow-down-reminds my of an ex who was black and hispanic that layed it into this latin chick who wouldn't shut up. But that's another story.  Word to Mutha'. edited to add: Arm Bars are really funny to watch when some guy is caught up in one-but only if it's not you. The minute they got tangled up on the ground the CIW was in close enough proximty to have head-butted her a few times. A well placed head butt will spray nose all over the place. |

A lot of people have, uh, ideas, about what they would do if presented with situation x. Especially as it pertains to ground fighting. I know *I* did. Most major cities now have jiu-jitsu places where you can go and try those ideas out and see how they work. Most of these places, the first class is free. Only thing at risk is your pride... |
