WTF what a dumbass. Some people just can't drive. My old 99 z28 was putting 400 hp to the wheels and was drove year round including nasty IL winters. Traction control is for PUSSIES. I actually disabled the traction control in my Z by removing the fuse, I got tired of hitting the button everytime I got in the car. I drove that car like a maniac and never lost control. I think this guy should get himself a v6 mustang.

This is why I NEVER turn off the stability management system (traction control) on my M3. Which year? I love mine. I turn off the ASC (completely, by holding the button down for 10 seconds) often and the car can be a handful (...of fun). But I leave it on if the weather isn't good or I don't plan on doing anything that would require it to be off. I've learned my lesson on a 97' 328i when I turned it off in the rain and got on it way too hard in a turn... I repaired the damage myself and I learned an important lesson. http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4122/7886383654247422323im1mlz7.jpg Mine is getting old. It's a 2002. |

Sucky.
Trac./Stability Control has a place, the problems come in when it gets too intrusive or impossible to disable. BMW seems to make a good TC setup. Others, like the LX platform mopars(MB sourced) tend to err too much on the conservative side and some won't allow you to shut it off completely for fun time. This is why my Charger has a NoESP kit (235's are in no way enough tire for this car ) |

Glad he's okay, but screwing around with the electronic systems off in the snow wasn't too intelligent of an idea

When you're sliding the rear, you have about a 30 degree threshold before it goes "whoopsie doodle"
I guess he found that out the hard way. Traction control is like training wheels. When you drive your car enough you'll know when you're about to lose traction by the seat of your pants. Until then, don't get brave. |

I like Holton Imports in Jackson if you still haven't decided on a shop. They are kinda behind the Ridgeland library.

Oh damn!! Those hurt to look at! Sad.
<––––- very jealous of your BMWs! |
|
On the track with racing tires would be a great time to turn off the system
to induce slight 4 wheel drift and a little oversteer on exit. One MUST be cautious on the street with street tires. |
|
All things considered, it doesn't look TOO bad. Doesn't look pretty either. But it should be back on the road in no time.
<––––––––saving up for an E36 M3 and a Dinan package |

Stupid hurts. Luckily the pain is just gonna be felt in his wallet this time.

It makes me sad that someone who can't drive can have a car like that.

That's why they exist: to be driven hard and occasionally one falls to the statistics. I hope he's insured through USAA so I can help pay for it. This one wasn't being "driven hard", it was being driven by an idiot. |

Crashed : Yes Wrecked : No I'd say when the car is in a condition that it can no longer be driven without serious repairs, it's wrecked. |

Beautiful car (those M3's are). Glad your buddy walked away unscathed form this and hopefully with some lessons learned and a bit of humility.

Yes they are designed to be driven hard, but by people who know what the hell they are doing. If you aren't a trained driver, you shouldn't be fucking around in a 400+ hp BMW. That's not a statistic, that's stupidity. |

I still firmy believe that sports cars shouldn't have traction control set to "on" by default.
It should always be off unless you find yourself driving tired or in heavy rain and need assistance. |

He had one of those too... an M Roadster. He sold it after he got the M3 and bought a 535i for a daily driver. |

That's not a statistic, that's stupidity. Well, the only qualifying factor is a fat checkbook. I lament the loss of a fine automobile, but it is just a car. If I remember right, I was keeping track of P-51 crashes back in the mid-80's, and there were more 'Stang write-offs than F-16 Falcons in 1986. A fool, some money, a little unskilled exuberance and VIOLA! I felt some sense of remorse, but over the years I’d have to chalk-it up to its history being written as it goes through time. One day the only ones around will be the ones suspended with cables in museums. |
