There were some repros done in the late 1800s. My uncle had some of Speed's maps, including some of the later repros. The paper turning black seems odd though.

LOL. I see what you did there.

I agree. I'll wager that it's a circa-1960/1970 repro.

it is hard to tell from the picture, is it in color?  if it is, it could be an original. otherwise a repro.  I found a couple of nice originals for sale for around $3000

Nope, not color. The material it's printed on isn't normal paper, it sort of feels like a thin piece of wood. It seems more like you could break a piece off rather than tear it. It's a dark mahogany color with dark black ink.

My girlfriend bought this picture because she wanted to reuse the frame. When she was pulling the original picture out, we found a map of "The Aethiopian Ocean" stuck between the picture and the back of the frame. It appears to be very old. Can anyone help identifying it?

Sorry about the lighting in the pictures. The map is extremely dark and it was tough trying to get any of the details.

As bad of shape as the one you have is in..... I'm willing to give you 2 pmags and a 50ct box of 22lr.

That would look amazing next to my antique African art, very cool OP!

Smell it, if it's an original you'll be able to tell pretty quickly. That's the first test I give something when trying to determine if it's authentic.

Go onto the Dark Net and buy all the email addresses in Africa, the Arabian Pennisula, Pakistan, Rhode Island, New Jersey and New York.

Send emails to everyone on that email list offering to sell them your ancient map of Africa showing the location of untapped, yet vast wealth.

All they need to get a copy is to send you $100,000 via Western Union Moneygram.  You'll cash the Moneygram and send them back $99,990 plus the map.

Tell them to contact you though your ARFCOM email address.
