Well stated!  When look at pictures of my Army days 85-89, most everything we did would get us booted out today.
So would the stuff we did in my early CG career.
I wouldn't last no time in today's military.

Sure it could.

It could also be this administration's undying urge to destroy anything conservative Americans have any pride in.

Personally I don't know the horndog aviator in question.  I don't know if this is typical of his behavior.  I do know it's typical behavior of the administration though.

He missed the briefing about not saying fuck in front of the cunts.
The USAF I served in had titty dancers at the O Club and $.25 whisky on Wednesday afternoon happy hour.

Where in any professional setting do you think frat house shenanigans are acceptable or appropriate?  Like Dport said, when the details emerge I doubt it will be anything as trivial as you think.  I can only speak for my service, but our fighter squadrons are trainwrecks.  The shit that goes down in the bars heritage rooms is disgraceful, and the least professional officers and pilots I have ever met or worked for have always been fighter guys.

You don't go by the cop shop too often I take it? There's a reason we lead the AF in every bad stat. Other then actively trying to stay number 1.

I don't mean we, I'm done with that and a lowly civilian again. Loved the job and people, hated the leadership. Still would do it all over again.

You would have loved living through the actual Tailhook witch hunts... as in "no promotion if you even know anyone who attended Tailhook."

It didn't help that some Marine aviator decided it would be a good idea to send a fax to chief witch hunter Patsy Schroeder's office (yes, with the "From; VMFA-xxx" heading on it) that said
"Hickory Dickory Dock
Pat Schroeder, Suck My Cock."

Just making clear that it in that particular case it wasn't a blue-suit aviator being exceptionally dumb.  That one even made the aviators across the hall cringe.  While that fax also reflected their opinion, they claimed they would have been smart enough to disable the headers first.

We innocent bystander SWOs and the Submariners weren't terribly pleased to suffer alongside them.

I have a hard time believing it in this case. Captain McWherter completed a two year command tour and then was ordered back for a second tour after his relief almost flew the Diamond formation into the dirt. That's four years to be engaged in such hijinks while commanding one of our most high-visibility units.

Yes this stuff used to happen all the time. Now it won't, and everyone in the service knows the standard. Its just like any other regulation, you adhere to it because that's part of earning your paycheck. People need to realize this if they want to stay employed and advance.

Everyone being surprised doesn't indicate innocence. The neighbors of the BTK killer were surprised and said many of the same things. Most repeat rapists never get caught because people immediately discount the victim. Part of that is being a likable person, the other part is choosing victims that will be immediately discounted.

While this doesn't sound like a rape case at all, it is definitely food for thought.

Everyone in the military is familiar with the rules and regs, and it is just like any other rule and reg. You don't have to abide by it, but if someone doesn't like something you do that is against regulation and they call you out you will not land on your feet. If this guy really was the best and brightest he never would have violated regulations so easy to follow. Welcome to the new age, where we in the military are trying to get rid of stereotypes. Stereotypes where people think by joining as a woman you will be raped. Stereotypes where everyone thinks being in the military makes you some kind of an animal. There is a higher chance of being raped going to a university right now than there is by joining the military. I want people to realize that instead of spouting off about what savages we are.

The sooner we acclimate to this change the sooner we are going to stop having 3 hours of SAPR and SHARP shoved down our throats weekly as well. Keep your friends out of trouble, sometimes they need to be reminded. Even if some chick in your office or whatever is "cool" with it all it takes is her to say one thing one day after deciding she isn't cool with it. And she won't be the one hurting for it anymore.

Could it possibly, remotely be that the guy really could have been crude, unprofessional pervert?

Most likely. The scuttlebutt is when the investigation can be FOIAed it will show that he deserved it.

I have a hard time believing it in this case. Captain McWherter completed a two year command tour and then was ordered back for a second tour after his relief almost flew the Diamond formation into the dirt. That's four years to be engaged in such hijinks while commanding one of our most high-visibility units.

Talking to guys who know him well, they suspect witch hunt.  Doesn't mean  he didn't do something stupid but there are guys about whom you'd say "Finally caught up to him" and other guys  about whom you'd be really surprised.

The folks who know him well are all surprisd. That said, we were all surprised about an earlier O6 firing not long ago too.

Oh, c'mon. We all know the double standards and PC hypersensitivity that permeate today's military.  I know a chief that was reprimanded referring to a flip chart as a "flip chart" because we all should know that "flip" is a culturally insensitive term for Phillipino.

All of that sensitivity training will never go away and it is going to get worse, not because we are insensitive louts, because brass and politicians demand it to show how sensitive they are on their fitreps.

Hey Captain frickin' Obvious, did you read the second and fourth sentences of my post?  The sentences where I said that surprise didn't indicate innocence.

That said, did BTK's neighbors share a stateroom with him during deployment?  Did they go on liberty with him?  To air wing Fallon?  Were they at his wedding?  Your comparison is bullshit.

That doesn't mean anything either. One of my old shipmates is going to jail over an FBI investigation because he had pictures of minors doing sex acts in his car and pictures through windows of his neighbors taking showers. We lived in the same room two years and I never would have expected that.

Maybe it was one of those people who did share a room with him that reported him.

And what about the BTK's wife who said the same shit and his family.

I'm not denying that a "zero tolerance" witch hunt is becoming the norm, but here is an example of how widespread the stupid shit is in just our branch of service:

http://www.foia.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-130118-015.pdf

Was some of it just maxims and shit?  Sure.  Was some of it a hell of a lot worse?  You bet.  Was most of it found in ACC squadrons? Yep.

He probably did nothing.  He was probably a cool CC who didn't flip out over fraternizing, and he's being punished for it.

Well stated!  When look at pictures of my Army days 85-89, most everything we did would get us booted out today.
So would the stuff we did in my early CG career.
I wouldn't last no time in today's military.

Yeah it does.  Sometimes it's surprising and justified -  see Chilly Winter.  Other time, not so much.

They canned Capt. Stump just for being at Tail hook...and he had only shown up to receive an award.  Capt. McWhirter was good people back when he was a JO.
