So Im trying to get this part for a customer. Manuf no longer makes it. Simple metal handle on a old machine that's about 40 years old.

I get 2 hits on the locater from the Manuf that searches all dealers inventory. I need exactly two.

First one is no issue. Place in IN had it. Even discounted it since I am a dealer so I can make a tiny bit, which is a customary thing between dealers.

Last one is in Canada. I call the guy he answers in French. Luckily he can speak a little English

So he says hell sell it to me. Great. Im like so will you do a discounted rate. Sure. Great. He tells me the price and its double list price in US dollars.

I sit there and Im like uhm well this discount went in the wrong direction. Hes like well Im the last one with one. Im like yes this is true. Im also Canadian he says. Im like yeah well I am American so is there anything you can do here to get this out of your inventory?

He tells me he will check with his manager.

Finally calls back hours later. Now the price has went up another bit and is almost 3x list price. I again tell him this. Yes its the last one, and I am Canadian he replies.

So, whats the deal. I thought Canadians apologized to you, not try and rape you on a part that they've been sitting on for a few decades.

French Canadians are quite possibly bigger assholes than the French themselves.

Not even Canada likes French Canadians.

Dont forget to tell him that you apologize for the long rant, but the current conversion of US to Canadian Rant is currently in our favor due to their shitty economy

Oh no Im not going to get into it with him

Im going to thank him for his efforts but his price is simply too high for a part with limited demand and to wish them luck in their endeavors of selling it one day ..... I wish I could include that emoji in the email too

Or something of that nature. I haven't typed it up yet

That guy is a douche.

Let him sit on it. Maybe your customer can take the part you got for him and have another made?

I did that years ago with some handling fixtures for 16" optical disks in a machine
the machine maker wanted so much for their fixtures it was cheaper for me to design a vacuum mold and produce a model and drawing package to build our own storage/transport racks and covers.
that company fucked up by not giving a volume discount.

refer to him as "LaDouche" and tell him to enjoy that part, as he'll have it forever.
he sounds like the kind of guy who will stroke out over that.

20 minutes in a metal shop and a rank beginner welder could fabricate that using materials from the scrap metal bin.

That part is really rather simple to make.

Nothing that some quality time with a bandsaw, mill, lathe, and a tig-welder can't reproduce.

Once you have the broken part in your possession, reverse-engineer it and make a few new ones.

To hell with that French-Canadian...

Oh hell...that fucking thing is stupid-simple to reverse-engineer and reproduce!

I could do that myself quite easily...and it would look a hell of a lot better than that.

Jeez...

The central tube around which everythihg rotates may need to be cut from round stock and bored out to a certain tolerance, which should take all of ten minutes, tops.
The longer tube just needs to be cut, coped, hole drilled and welded.
Same goes for the tab...nothing difficult.
Reproducing the handle in the drawing would takes but a few minutes with a cnc lathe.

None of that is difficult by any means.

Looks like the lower part of a bicycle frame.

Did you have a new part made yet? In the time you spent dicking around with the French Canadian fuck you could have found a local fabricator to pump out one plus a spare.
