Speaking of 556 cans, I was watching a video of one and I can't remember what it was but I remember it fit on all regular bird cage flash hider. Does anyone know which suppressor that was?

I prefer shooting suppressed, especially with short barrels. Reliable performance requires tuning the weapon to the suppressor, so you should plan to try different buffers and add an adjustable gas block, though you may find it runs fine without doing either.

When I suppressed my 10.3” rifle, I ended up installing an Armaspec SRS (H2) and an adjustable gas block, and it ran very smoothly. In order to reduce heat & fouling in my receiver, I switched to a Superlative Arms piston kit a few months later.

I know that some buy larger suppressors to use with multiple calibers, but I prefer caliber-specific suppressors, as each of mine go with a specific host weapon. That’s just what suits me. To each his own.

Might have been a Halo.  I used one of those briefly in Iraq back in 2008.  It mounted on the A2 flash hider of my M16A4.

Yes, 100%. My SPR-M4 is by far my favorite can.  So much quieter than both of my .308 cans that never get used.  I shoot my .223 AR in single shot mode with no action or port noise from an 18 inch SPR.  Totally hearing safe.  I have sensitive ears and it is way quieter at the ear than my Tirant when shooting subsonic .45.

My 5.56 can is also an M4-2k.  I just bought a new 51T brake for one of my rifles so I could use the can on it.  I like it, but if someone offered to trade me for a good .30 can, I'd do it because now I'm looking at dropping a grand+stamp on a .30 can for my .300BO and my AR10.

After a decade I did the file trick last weekend on 2 mounts.  Incredible difference.

My SDN-6 weighs as much as a brick but it’ll be around after my bones are dust.  Makes other cans feel like toys

This combo made my 11.5 a much more pleasant gun to shoot.  You’ll dig it.

A DD MK18 probably isn’t the best suppressor host.

Check out pewscience before making any decisions.   I think CGS makes the best suppressors currently on the market.

In an AUG thread, a poster was concerned about excessive backpressure with a 5.56 can.  He switched to a .30 can and claimed it helped a lot without too much more noise.

I love having a suppressed 5.56. They are great for hunting, home defense,  and they are nice to have on my work gun. Basically, no, it won't be movie quiet, but you won't go deaf if you have to take a couple shots with a can on.

I have both dedicated 5.56 cans and a 30 cal can. If you don't plan on suppressing anything larger than 5.56, then just get a 5.56 can.

I’m trying to decide this very thing also. I have several 30cal cans but no 5.56. A surefire 762mini has been my go to hard use can for 10.5-16” carbines and it’s loud. It takes the bite out but that’s all. Doesn’t sound like the dedicated 5.56 can is that much better on sound.

-Rimfire cans are fun.
-Centerfire pistol cans that run subsonic ammo are fun.
-Centerfire rifle cans with supersonic ammo, for me, have been a waste of time & money.

I need to get into this game. My unwashed thoughts.

-I shoot almost entirely at DNR ranges (i.e. people shooting whatever they have, almost certainly not suppressed). With that in mind and that I have no land to shoot on a .22 suppressor seems less useful. I would like to suppress my Glock 44 though so I can pretend I'm a ninja.

-HD gun is a 16" AR (I do have an unfired 11.5 pistol, in a pile with all the other unfired guns...), hunting/fun gun a .44 rifle. I think I would like something to ease off the noise during a defensive situation and while hunting as well as shoot subsonic loads. I have nothing between .223 and .44. I'm thinking I'll go with a Turbo K or 2 and a .45 pistol can that can be shot on a rifle, primarily for the .44 but also possibly on my Glocks. Of course I'll need a .22 and .30 suppressor eventually but these seem like what I could use first.

-a 9mm suppressor seems like a good idea for a travel/hotel gun, however, I hate doing that and the 2 most likely places are California and Chiraq for family. ??

tl;Dr, I think my first suppressors should be 5.56 and .45. ?????

I accidently touched off a 16" .308 without hearing protection on and the can saved me ears ringing for days.

I have an aac m4-2000.  I use my .30 cal cans instead.  MUCH less blowback with just about everything. Takes the sound just fine without all the issues from a small volume can.  The m4-2000 isn't terrible on some rifles but the .30 cal can are a better tradeoff for me.

True! I’ve fired mine indoors with no hearing protection, and it wasn’t very loud. I’ve fired it unsuppressed outdoors, and it was intolerable without good hearing protection.

There’s the Gemtech Halo, which has a collar that fits onto the A2 and then the can threads into the collar, then there’s the Griffin M4SD, which has a latch-gate that clamps it to the A2.

Are 5.56 cans worth it?

IMO no, my Hybrid 46 is way overbored compared to my 30 cal cans, and I honestly can’t tell the difference.

Are rifle cans worth it?

Absofuckinglutely. No, rifles will never be silent suppressed. But they will be immensely more pleasant to shoot. They are also a huge advantage hunting. I get better and more frequent follow up shot opportunities hunting suppressed.

As with most things, the answer is "depends".

Suppressors aren't just about noise. In fact, they're more for "signature reduction" than anything. They're also the most effective muzzle device in existence.

The downside is the paperwork, cost, tax, wait, weapon balance, and added wear and tear on your gun's internals.
