Love it!

If I knew then what I know now I would have gone with a shorter barrel' other than that it has been awesome. Sub MOA out to 800.

That is the model I have as well.

Bedded the action and swapped the trigger from an older 40x. For some reason the original trigger was not as adjustable as the 40x and the 40x had just a tad bit wider trigger which I liked.

It is a tack driver.

LTR-  20 inch Fluted barrel, HS precision stock.  I added a Timney trigger, a Vortex scope and a Nightforce direct mount.  Shoots 0.5-0.75 MOA with Hornady 168gr match ammo.
Got it as a light, quick, but very accurate field gun

I have the 700VS model in both 308 and 223, I got them because I have always been a Remington guy, I bought the 308 first since a local shop had it in stock, I liked it so much that when the 223 presented itself it was a no brainer. The 223 has become my go to varminter.

Thanks for all the reply's. I'm leaning towards a .308 rifle. But no matter what, I want either .223 or .308 to save some cash as I already have .223 and .308 AR platform stuff.

Honestly the best times I've had at the range lately has been with my .22 conversion in the AR. With ammo that cheap it has just seemed more fun.

My pics aren't around since my computer crashed, but I have:

R700 SPS Tac in .308

It wears a 20MOA rail, Weaver rings, and a 10x40 Bushnell. It's only a 1:12 with 20 inch barrel, but it pushes a 175 grain SMK with extremely accurately from 100-600 yards. Possibly further if i could find a longer range to shoot at.

I have a cheap bipod, a decent leather sling, stock everything else. The only other thing I did was clearance the front of the Hogue stock so it didn't touch the barrel, and painted the whole rifle. Also, not shown on the picture, is the Woodland Eagle stock pack with some mouse pads underneath to get my eye in line with my scope.

Found 'em:

If I were to get one I would get the SPS Tactical, get the barrel threaded for a can and get a magazine conversion.
Scope and mounts too (of course).

thinking about selling the HS stock for sure though

Remington SPS Varmint in .308. Bought it because it's the same thing as the 700 Police in a cheap stock, and costs alot less. Then I when I came across a take-off stock from a Sendero for $50, I snapped it up and put my SPS in it.

My adl I bought back in 1973 for 105.00, still use it for hunting today. Weaver K4w scope. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

My 700 tactical with a Muzzy brake on it will shoot, as someone has already mentioned, boringly accurate.

I picked up a  700 SPS tactical last year... it was just shy of a grand with a VXII scope, rings and sling, I'm a huge fan of mine... I like the bigger caliber in a rifle like this... in South Dakota a hunting round has to be .243 or larger to hunt big game with (legally anyway) and everything I own I hunt with...

2-10 shot groups @ 100yds.

If I would have stopped a 5 rounds like everyone else in this thread they would have been 1/2 moa.

I like regular hunting weight bolt actions with the traditional length barrel

you know, like people bought before the entire gun world became all tactical and elite

they're comfortable to shoot, they're moderately lightweight, and the long barrel throws the muzzle blast downrange

Just get a stainless hunting weight remington 700 in 30-06 or 308 and a leupold VX 3 scope and leupold rings and you'll be set for life for any job you can think of.

all these super heavy sniper guns and ultra lightweight guns and real short barrelled guns and uber magnums look good on paper but they suck ass to own and shoot

the gun companies have been trying to churn their products this way since forever, coming up with "awesome new" stuff that disappears in a year's time

I bought an early Remington 700 Titanium for a lightweight rig to compliment my heavier rifles. It weighs in at 5.25 lbs, nekkid.

I use it for hunting, though it is as accurate as the heavier rigs, after I figured out how to shoot a light rifle consistently. It has become one of my favorites, especially when using climbing tree stands, and/or hiking a few miles per day.

It's about the most punch I'd care to use in such a light rifle.

I've got a 700 Police in .308 that I was given for free NIB in exchange for some work I did.

I put on Warne rings, a Leupold 4.5-14-40 scope, and had GemTech thread the barrel and slapped on a Sandstorm can.

Love it.

I had my 308 custom made.  It started with a Remington 700 action.  It is fitted with a 24" 1in 10 Shilen Select Match Grade barrel.  Adjustable Timney Trigger (set at 2lbs).  HS precision carbon fiber stock with full aluminum bedding block.  Pachmayr decelerator recoil pad. Vortex Scope on Burris Ring and Burris Bi-pod.  I reload Lapua brass with Berger 175gr bullet, 43.3gr Hodgdon Varget powder and 210 match primer.

Photo when I get home.

I stuck a Jewell trigger in it, and a NF on top.  It's a tack driver !

I have the 700 SPS tactical in .308. Not the best rifle out there but the best in my price range from the research I did. I was close to going with the savage but I actually got the remington a lttle cheaper than a comparative savage.

I think everyone should have a .308 bolt gun but if you already have a .308 AR you may want to look at another caliber.

I have the long varminter, fluted SS barrel with synth stock. It's basic, but accurate. I have a Leupold VX2 on it until I decide I really like long range shooting. It's a big gun though.

Same here, Varmint Special .308 stainless fluted, Nightforce base, Ziess 6.5-20x50 MilDot scope and it is a tack driver.
I dialed the factory trigger down to about 2.5 pounds crisp as an ice sickle and no creep and almost no over travel.
Love it.

I had one of those ADL or whatever it was called. Relatively thin barrel with rifle rights.

I have had one since they came out.    The one I got was mediocre with most loads....   but a hot load of 4064, fed match primer, & uniform brass will push a 175 gr moly sierra matchking in a 10 shot 3/4" group at 200 yds every time I take it out.

I put a MK IV base and scope on it and a great trigger... just an awesome gun with that one exact hot load
Quoted:

I have a Remington 700 LTR. They make a lot of sense because they are short, not really heavier than a sporter, but will shoot 1/2 groups at 100 yards like a varminter. When I bought it all my buddies made fun of me. Now they have them too. A standard PSS is too heavy to walk around with. The LTR will shoot as well and is a walk around gun.

ETA: my LTR also likes the rounds standard mag length w/ a light Lee crimp... tried setting them longer for single shot only... but accuracy and velocity went down...    kind of weird, but the rifle literally puts the best group every single time out of this one exact load.... (I culled all the brass that doesn't weigh exactly the same to my M1A & just keep neck sizing the same several hundred)    so I stopped messing with it....

Why?...because it is my hunting rig...it has a fluted 26" barrel.

I can push a 150 gr Barnes TTSX (same profile as a 165 grain lead head) at over 3000 fps and do less than one MOA...with very little recoil.

Aftermarket trigger and B&L 6x24 50mm glass...

I bought it at a drug store over 20 years ago...for  less than $400...
