weigh more?

Not fit in your pocket?

Cost more?

Look at websites without constantly having to zoom in and zoom out.

My laptop does that just fine and it has more functionality

I would hope so.

I was just pointing out a thing it does better than an iPod touch.

The iPad is something that people are either going to love or hate.  No one is going to convince me that I should get a netbook instead, and I'm sure never going to convince any of the iPad haters that it's better than a netbook for some people.

I use this mininotebook for a couple of things.

Browsing in my livingroom on the couch (in stead of using a pc in another room).

Watching downloaded movies via WiFi- Network - External Harddisk - other PC.

It is light, has a batteryendurance of 4 hours. Integrated WiFi and Bluetooth and Touchscreen.

You can use a small stylus to use the touchscreen and the styles can be stored in the nootbook.

You can not use this laptop for work, because the keyboard is absolutely too small.

For work you need something different, but for what I need it for, it's excellent.

Newer versions have multitouch and Windows 7, mine runs on XP.

Excellent machine...

That's great, but when I'm on the go, I don't want to have to boot up an ultra slow system running windows.  You turn it on, and it's ready to go.  Just like the iPods.

To me it falls in a category not a lot of people have a use for. It's too big to easily carry around in your pocket like an iPod Touch or iPhone or Blackberry and it's too small and lacks functionality to replace a laptop. If you're going to need a backpack or schoolbag or suitcase to carry it, might as well go for a laptop. Talk about niche

I've been waiting for that thing for years and like most everyone I was pretty disappointed in it.  The only niche I can see for it is that it has a useable size screen and I can carry it in my purse.  That might be reason enough for me to buy one, but I'm not familiar with the iPhone OS so I'm waiting to get my hands on one to decide.

The OS for the iPod/iPhone is pretty intuitive and works well. I liek it on my iPod. You can fit a 9.56"x7.47" iPad in your purse? Is it a purse or a tractor-trailer?

Im getting my wife one for her birthday.  She reads a lot of e-books and she wants to be able to have it on the couch to look things up on the internet.  It looks a lot better for reading her books while lying on the couch or bed than a netbook.

I expected that it would be since I've never had any problem with OSX.  I don't understand the crack about the purse though.  I wasn't planning on carrying it in my little black velvet evening clutch, but I have a half dozen purses suitable for use with either casual clothes or business wear that it will fit in just fine.

I think it's a great little device for casual internet use, such as email or mindlessly surfing forums while I watch TV(lack of flash is retarded, though).  It looks like it would be more comfortable to use without a desk or tabletop than any laptop.  It shouldn't put out any heat.. my laptop gets uncomfortably hot when you actually sit in in your lap.  I don't care for tiny netbook keyboards, and the small screens are hard for me to read unless I run some low resolution that makes modern websites look like crap.

I don't even look at it in the same light as a netbook/laptop.  It obviously wasn't designed to be either of those.  It's more like an evolved version of those "internet appliances" that were on the market around 2000 and failed miserably.

I think the size of it's niche will be dictated by the apps people make for it.  My iPhone does things for me that I never even imagined I would use it for when I first read about the iPhone, some creative app developers are sure to come up with some wild ideas for the iPad which will make people see it in an entirely different light.

I also have never understood why the iPad is being marketed as a an e-reader?  How wants to read off of a backlit LCD screen?  In my office all of my files are digital, but because the screen bother my eyes I print out every multi-page document that I have to review.  I hate reading off of LCDs and I do not want to rely on an LCD screen to replace my books and periodicals.

And yes I will be getting an ipad. Y'all are crazy if you don't think apple will sell millions and millions of these things. Wait until the developers get up and running with the thing. It will be amazing.

Most people want a computer to do facebook, light surfing, watch movies and look at pretty pictures. For those purposes the ipad will dominate the market.

That is the single most useful iPhone app in existence. I think it was like $10 or so too. Would have been a bargain at 10X the price.

What is it called? I couldn't find anything when I searched for "MyWi".

Google MyWi.. it's not an iTunes app, you have to jailbreak your phone.

I may get one

I have a netbook and an iPhone but the majority of my sitting-on-the-sofa surfing happens via the iPhone

I really don't like my net book at all

Since this is primarily being marketed as a better internet surfing device...

No Adobe Flash = FAIL

Not really.  The iphone has done just fine without it.  Flash is an outdated, bloated, security hole that needs to go away.

The iPad isn't a phone.

The iPhone did well because it's a phone and fits in your pocket. I predict the iPad will flop and only the Appleuminati will suck it up. I've had an iPhone for 2+ years. My # 1 and # 2 complaints about it are lack of Adobe Flash and lack of Adobe Flash.

Adobe flash will be gone within the next couple of years.  Google's already got a flash-free version of youtube, I suspect Hulu and others will begin to follow suit soon enough.

I heard Hulu doesn't want to get away from Flash due to the way it encapsulates the media, and secures it from being copied.   I have a Roku on the way, and if Hulu videos were available on it, I would cancel my cable tomorrow.

I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my TV.  I cancelled cable a while back.

so when is this beast coming out? I need to get my wife something similar to an ipad for her birthday.  Needs to be a good reader for ebooks and be able to surf the internet, but she doesnt like the small netbook screens.

I think they are looking for a June release.  They brought an impressive prototype to CES and had what they claimed was a close to production model at WMC last month.
