Slightly pre-70's-era, but well sang...

Bobby Blue Bland..

Oh and x a Zillion on Baby Huey,

It's incredible to realize Curtis Mayfield finished that album from rough tracks as Baby Huey died before the album.

This thread is also very relevant, great suggestions!!!

I've also "discovered" this Musical genre also which just shows how ignorant I was in the 70's.

One can only listen to Physical Graffiti and the litany of other 70's album oriented rock so much.

I'm sure like many other children of the 70's, the start of Soul Train meant time to go outside... this and Disco "sucked"..... Except for all of us knowing the beginning of Superfly and Shaft, this and blackspotation flicks were a no-go.. My parents would have flipped shit if I ever told them I was going to go to a George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelics show.

Great intro - Ernie was an incredible guitarist.

Different feel to this one, and recent, but it has that old-school-soul sound to me...

Jill Scott - You Don't Know

I played the hell out of that album back in the 70's - no bad tracks.  Back to Oakland was loaded with good stuff, too.

Born in '64, I didn't listen to this stuff too much growing up but rstel01 expressed my sentiments well, up above.  The current trend of mostly manufactured, fake, auto-tuned and synthetic fluff just doesn't appeal to me that much anymore.  YouTube is a gold mine for discovering a lot of these old treasures, from people that had tons of talent that could really sing and play.

Of course, TOWER OF POWER !!!

Work backwards, forwards, or anywhere in between.
You'll find something on youtube with this fantastic band!
I saw this shit LIVE and in LIVING COLOR when I was 16, 17, and up until TODAY!
Start with this old footage of 'Knock Yourself Out!' :  1973
Don Kirshner's ROCK CONCERT on TV.

Lenny Pickett doing the Lenny Pickett Dance.
Chester Thompson tweakin' your ears with the Hammond B3 organ.
The HORNS just bending your mind.
It all works!

WHAT IS HIP?  Soul Train.  1973.

CRANK IT.

Trying for a 'capture video URL at the time'...might epically fail.

Worth looking at a few minutes of Tower Of Power from 2010, in Italy.  Estival Jazz Festival at Lugano.  MINUS The Funky Doctor on Baritone Sax.

It should switch over to 'Walkin' Up Hip Street'.  at about 59 minutes.
It will go over to the rythym section for a real treat.
All from a band that has been together in one form or another for almost 50 years.
5 original members are still at work on the roster.
Amazing.

A little more Blues than Funk but a great 70's song nonetheless:

When I win one of the mega stupid money lotteries, I'm single handedly going to bring back the custom van craze of the 70's.  One of those vans is going to be named "Jungle Boogie".
