At the risk of sounding nerdy, I'm going to have to call out that map. The Map of Europe looks like it's in a conical projection, while the Texas overlay looks to be in a Mercator projection. One cannot compare areas when the projections are not the same.

Here's a much more accurate map created using ArcGIS software showing both Europe and Texas in the same Albers conical equal area projection:
