"Ford Focus" Found your problem!
I, too, suffered from purchasing a Ford Focus.
You have to understand the limitations of your chosen car - it was designed and built around ONE CONCEPT:
Disposable Car For WOMEN.
It is built with the CHEAPEST, SHITTIEST engine components known to man! It has TONS and TONS of plastic on CRITICAL engine components - especially those components that are subjected to significant HEAT, PRESSURE, and STRESS. If this isn't a recipe for disaster in your eyes, you're an IDIOT of the highest magnitude!
Take a look at your thermostat housing - PLASTIC. Take a look at the vast bulk of your radiator - PLASTIC. Take a look at just about ANYTHING in that engine compartment - PLASTIC. While I will readily admit that polymers have their place in reducing the weight of your vehicle, but NOT in critical engine components. I don't give two flying monkey fucks WHAT plastic they're using - regardless of WHAT heat, pressure, or forces the polymer manufacturer CLAIMS their particular product will withstand - none of them account for murphy's law - and ALL of those claims are 100% PURE BULLSHIT.
Plastic will WARP AND DEFORM under heat & pressure & stresses! This is a given. When those normal operating forces continually wear down the plastic, wear down their ability to remain water / air / oil tight and sealed - the engine will FAIL - CRITICALLY - PERMANENTLY!
As for my Ford Focus, it sits beside my garage, grass grown up all around it - dead as the F.O.R.D. jokes imply! I have sunk several hundred into keeping it going, only to have catastrophic failure of the engine, and complete failure of the "Hecho En Mexico" PCM computer! The costs to repair (ie REPLACE) much of the engine, and replace the PCM is FAR higher than the piece of shit is worth!
FACE IT - This car was designed to be driven by WOMEN that CANNOT PARALLEL PARK, and likely will NEVER do much to maintain the vehicle, and will abuse and neglect it until it dies and is replaced by her sugar daddy / husband / chump / sucker!!! Why else would they design it with fully automated parallel parking in the newest models??? Women can't parallel park for shit.
I walked into a store a couple months ago, and a wealthy local guy was swearing, cussing, and irate while talking to his friend in the grocery store... He said he was PISSED OFF that his BRAND NEW 2014 Ford Focus engine completely BLEW UP! He bought the car for his wife, and after driving it for a while he took it in for the break-in service... When the dealership tried charging him over $400 for the service, he left, having not done the break-in service... About a month later, the car's engine blows up, and the dealership won't replace the engine under warranty - he failed to have the engine serviced after the break-in period, and they claimed he voided the warranty, and they weren't replacing it... So there sits the guy - with a Dead Ford Focus in his driveway - new 2014 model.
When I was overhearing this, I started to laugh out loud - it was only 2 weeks since MY Ford Focus gave up the ghost. He quickly asked, "What do you think is so funny?" After telling him of the series of major malfunctions and the demise of my Focus, he vowed to never buy a Ford again.
Look into the most LONG-TERM RELIABLE cars / engines on the market, and stick to those choices!
I tend to prefer any Toyota with the 1MZ-FE or the 3MZ-FE engines, as they are the absolute most RELIABLE engines Toyota has ever produced. The newer 2GR-FE engines are good, but due to their increased complexity are bound to have notably more problems, and were designed specifically to minimize the owner's involvement in the maintenance & repair of the vehicle - they were designed for dealership servicing for just about everything.
Seriously - if you want a NEW vehicle that is reliable, get a Subaru Forester, or something with a decent Toyota engine in it. If you don't mind used, buy a 1996 to 2005 Camry V6. For the sake of cost reduction, weight reduction, and meeting EPA regulations - engines have become notoriously over-complicated, and in many ways less reliable for long-term lifespan.
You were NEVER going to get 200,000 miles on a Ford Fuck-Us!
My 1997 Camry V6 has 260,000 and my Fuck-Us never made it past 125,000!
If you also want simplicity & reliability, get something with an old Chevy 350 small block V8, but prepare to suffer the worst mileage you've ever encountered... Too bad they don't make 1990 Honda CRX hatchback cars anymore - they were absolutely AMAZING little vehicles that ran over 300,000 miles with minimal maintenance, and got 40+ miles per gallon!
