After having been exposed to the horrible fucking music of the past two decades, even the Bee Gees sound like solid gold in comparison. Every single one of those songs you posted is miles ahead of anything you'll hear on the radio today, unless of course you tune to a classic rock or oldies station.

I will say, there is a disturbing lack of Steely Dan in this thread so far.

Queen's News of the World came out right at the end of 1977. This was the anthem of 1978:

When we got sick of playing that album for weeks on end, we switched to Boston:

When we tired of that, we went back to News of the World.

And in late 1978, there was

You like that too. I love that album, and more of his music.

Most of you probably won't care, but this song brings back memories of me and my dad going fishing, leaving home at 4am.  Driving in the dark in a 1977 Toyota Pickup with a AM radio.  I lost my dad last year, and trivial things like this song take me back for a few seconds and help me forget he's gone for a little bit.

Sorry to hear that. I lost mine a little over a year ago, and I didn't know him well, until the last years of his life. For that reason this is the one that does it for me.

Music is good that way though, in that it can keep memories alive.

I was in a band when I was a kid, and we played everything but punk back then. I have plenty of music still locked in my head.

After it happened, that song would be too much for me to bear.  Field of Dreams used to be one of my favorite movies, too, but I can't watch it any more. I was close to my dad, and wish I'd been closer.

This. I hardly ever turned off a radio that year and some of them I swear I never before.

IMO, by 1978 music was dead. ELO, Styx, whoever,...  who cares.
