Damn... I was hoping they were using sinister parts...more "thrusts per squeeze" and all.

John Moses Browning invented it and Colt produced it.

I've got this Springfield WWII GI Model that I'm real fond of.  The thing is a sweet shooter and for a great price. Couldn't pass it up. SA is kicking ass with this one.

As I recall, sintering is a process of compressing heated metal powder in a mold. Doesn't sound very durable to me

whats better a Kimber or SA???

I have a stainless Commander with about 8,000 rounds through it and the only part I ever replaced was the extractor. I replaced it with a Wilson Bullet Proof extractor and it works flawlessly. I am considering another 1911 and from what I have seen Springfield is turning out a very nice product, but for some reason I am being drawn to the Kimber.

I have a friend that was going to get a Kimber, but because of price he went with a Springfield, SS, Champion. To date the gun had been sent back to the factory 4 or 5 times, and Springfield finally replaced the gun. I don't why the original gun had so many problems and wouldn't stay running consistantly, but I know he is happy with the replacement. I do remember the dust cover on the Springfield being stamped "Brazil." Perhaps that had something to do with the quality.

I was also told that custom Springfield guns are 80% American parts and 20% Brazilian parts, and the more widely produced production guns are just the opposite at 80% Brazilian and 20% American. I never really researched it much further than that because I have been leaning towards the Kimber or possibly another Colt.

Perhaps someone could shed some light on the issue.....

The frames are made in the Imbel plant. They always have, they just didnt have to be marked like they do now. I have three early Springfields. One has 50,000 plus rounds out of which I have replaced a grand total of one diconnector. That happen to be a Colt part that a smith replaced to get a better trigger. The second has maybe 2500 rounds the third 300 or less. The internal parts are made with sinnistered [sp?] metal now. I cant say if that is better or worse by expierence. I heard they were better.

Thanks ARMALITE-FAN....

If it's sintered (powdered metal) then it's not better than machined.  It's cheaper to make but gives up alot in surface hardness and impact resistance.  I did a fair bit of work on transmission components a few years back and the Powdered Metal people were selling the shit out of their product.  Good for nonloadbearing components and applications where you might use a small casting or where heat eliminates use of plastic.  Wouldn't like to see internal FCG components made from it.

I love the 1911...  nothing feels as good in the hand.  I currently have a SA Milspec Parkerized.  I like it.  It's reliable and decently accurate.

I like the 1911 platform so much, I stuck with it when I picked this up for a carry peice:

(would have gotten a Government .380, but only found ONE at Market Hall, and it looked pretty used...)

Try one.

I changed instantly. I was worried about 1911s jamming and all that, but just try it once.

Had many....Colt's-3-Full size and 2-Commanders, SA-one V-10, Para Ord-P-14, P13...as I said, OK, but not that awe-inspiring for me. I don't hate'em, just I think there are as good or better pistols out there for me.

One thing that I like about them are their looks..I do like the classic lines...but as a whole, for me, there are other pistols out there that suit me better...

Pistols are typically used to stop an attacker at close range. A young male can typically cover 7 yards in 1.5 seconds from a standing start.

How many shots can you fire with reasonably accuracy in 1.5 seconds, starting with a holstered firearm, and including reaction time?

Frankly, anyone who thinks they need more than 8 shots in a defensive handgun hasn't thought the problem through.

Matthew_Q: I have both.

Actually, I gave the GF a used Gov't. model .380 for Mother's Day a couple of years ago, and back in June I bought a Mustang PlusII .380 for myself. (LNIB)

Maybe the Gov't. model has more rounds through it and is a little sloppier, but the Mustang shoots surprisingly good. I took the black grips off mine and added walnut, they're a little beefier and they help me get a better feeling grip.
