I throw in with the Goat on this one, both feet. Its not bad enough that we had our asses handed to us by a group of dogmatic fundamentalists who paint with a broad brush, now we have to put up with the same thing from within. That fucking S.O.F. attitude of "Shoot'em all, let God sort'em out" absolutely will not play. You beady eyed morons need to realize if you go leveling everybody with Arab backgrounds, our position in the world ain't going to get any better. If we strike back without thought and foresight to the consequences, [i]we become no better than the bastards that did this thing[/i].

I agree GoatBoy. I didnt see everyone screaming redneck and trailer trash when McVeigh bombed the OK federal building. No one was talking about killing all the whites then were they. This is the same situation. Know your enemy then destroy (just what happened to McVeigh).

I think what people need to realize is that the Muslim faith teaches hate in almost [b]EVERY[/b] Mosque in the middle east. You would be hard pressed to find a single middle eastern Mosque that doesn't talk about the "West" as the "great Satan".
Even in this country the majority of the Mosques which give their sermons in Arabic preach hatred of the "western culture". They hate the fact women live free in our culture and they teach all non-Muslims are infidels. A recent article by a CBS reporter in Detroit cast light on the HUGE number of Mosques which teach a steady diet of hate in their Arabic encrypted sermons. She said it was "chilling" and "terrifying" to hear what they preached in almost every Mosque they visited. This article was printed in 1998. She warned that America had an enemy brewing within and that attention should be paid... which of course we didn't. Goatboy, do you think the Vets in Vietnam were wrong to call their enemy "charlie", "gook", "zipper head", etc.? They weren't calling [b]ALL[/b] people of Asian decent these derogatory names, only those who they were fighting. Even American's of Asian decent used these terms to describe their North Vietnamese enemies. If I were to use a derogatory term to describe our enemies (terrorists), it would be ONLY THEM whom I am targeting. If I called our new enemy (see terrorist) a "raghead", I wouldn't do so to all Arabs around the world, only those who we are fighting with. Tell ya what, go stand at the hole in the ground where the World Trade Center was located and lecture people about their use of derogatory terms to describe [b]those responsible[/b] for this act of war. See how many fellow PC'ers you find in the crowd. This [b]is[/b] your house and if I choose to visit it (which I do), then I will abide by your house rules. Not a problem. I even respect you for this position. :) I also know you've probaby gotten emails from fellow American's whom are offended by the terms used on this site so you feel compelled to take action. Even though these people may mis-understand what's happening, they still apply pressure on you to act. That's something many of us may not understand, but I do. I might not respond to this pressure the same way you do, but then it's not my house. I don't fault you for doing what you think is right. But please, don't be a hypocrite and call your fellow American's "racists" because they choose to apply slang terms to our enemies. Having apparently been former military you must remember a time where you used a few choice words to describe your enemies. I personally feel we have the right to call them anything we wish, the more derogatory the better. But I can honor and respect your position that you don't want that here. I also know you share the same outrage we do and I in no way mean to belittle your own personal rage or to imply you're on their side... that's not what I'm saying. Please don't take offense to what I've written here. I'm not slamming you or trying to "dis" you. All I'm asking is that you understand that many of us feel the use of these terms (directed to our enemies, not to all Arabs and Muslims in general) are perfectly acceptable. But that's ok, you probably just realized they were our enemy last Tuesday and haven't given much time to studying them or the basic underpinnings of their beef with us. Even if we give all the thought in the world to who we strike back at and how we strike, we [b]still[/b] won't gain in popularity with any of these people. If we assassinated Bin Laden himself and didn't so much as break a window in the process, they would come at us with rejuvenated resolve. We can never improve our position with these people. I am NOT calling anyone a racist, I feel as badly as anyone else over this incident. I have offered my time and body if it's the case to helping clean and recover from this tragedy. Even now part of me wishes they would call me in to help, while a part of me KNOWS what these heroes are dealing with dreads it.
Imagine pulling PIECES of people, your brothers, AMERICANS, CANADIANS, ENGLISH, PEOPLE FROM ALL THE WORLD from the rubble. This was not just an attack on the US it was an attack on the world. The pure nightmares from what they are finding will cause many of our rescue workers sleepless nights and mental anguish. I understand anger and in a time of war it's OUR duty at home to protect those who are innocent from persecution and violence. It's the duty of those in our forces to act as our hand in striking down all those responsible. I am FAR from "pc" and I am not saying I am not using those terms in my life. I am ASKING that we user words like "Terrorists," "Cowards," and "Murderers" in their stead. To those who will go to combat or have been in combat, hate and anger become part of what you need to survive. Your minds still need to be clear to act and react properly and you must be able to use judgement on who to let live if anyone. My personal thoughts is that all those who harbor the enemy, BECOME the enemy. All those who APPLAUD the enemy, BECOME the enemy. The enemy should not be beaten, but annihilated off the face of the planet. Keep in mind that in Afghanistan alone, there are Muslim and Islamic forces in the middle of a CIVIL WAR against the Talaban. That means that there are Arabs out there who are not waiting for us to fight the evils of the world. Would you want us to wipe them out as well??? What about Americans of Arab decent??? They are in Terror and full of anger and hatred as much as many of us, but now they have become a target, just as the TERRORISTS wanted. They've gotten us to turn on our own and continue their work of spreading fear. Let those in combat use the hate and rage as a tool to strike them. Let those on the front lines use any language they so choose in order to come home to us safe. Innocents overseas will die, so be it. They know now to flee or join the rebels and they make their choices to live or die in these past days. I want to see them burn in hell, drown in pools of their own blood, and much much worse. Those in chat last night witnessed my anger and hatred towards those responsible. I have thought of death and killing and vengeance in my own life for anyone who would harm my family or friends. This was an act that has brought those emotions and thoughts to the forefront of my mind and I am not holding back. EXCEPT in this public domain, where we are representatives of a community who could at any point be targeted. I respect the rules we created here as a group, as a family. I respect everyone's thoughts and emotions, but in these times we must use our minds as much as our hearts. Please do what you can for the victims and their families. Please keep a cool head during this, we must act rationally and keep from doing the enemies work. If there is a call to arms (there will be no need for a draft) then those who can, should volunteer and show these fuckers that AMERICA will not tolerate attacks on our people on ANY SOIL. The internal factions fighting for control of Afghanistan aren't our buddies and they aren't fighting for us or our country. They are fighting for their own political gains/purposes and we have little or nothing to do with it. Many of those fighting the Taliban hate us just as much as the Taliban does. WGUNN, I did not make that reply as a response to you (in fact your poast wasn't even up as I wrote it) I simply wanted to comment on the whole the whats and whys of this discussion.
I agree that those in the Northern Alliance may harbor ill will towards us as well, but that will be decided when we're wiping the country clean of all souls. Like I said, everyone there has the choice to flee or rise against their government now. The choice is theirs in all these countries. Guilt by association. I'll tell you this, if this happened in this country, you can be assured I would rise against the parties responsible and die fighting them. -- GB |
