Once Branstad approves, we will be allowed to own short barreled rifles and shotguns?

Can you link to where it says that please

That is directly from the IFC who were heavily involved in getting this done working with the legislators.

I can finally have SBR's.....I can't believe that it actually passed.  Iowa has now become more pro gun than I ever dreamed of.  No more will they laugh at me for owning pistol braces.    Actually I plan on keeping a bunch as pistols but definitely will focus on SBR's moving forward.  Now if we could only get fireworks to become legal in Iowa.

Would love to have a cz scorpion pistol made to a SBR and suppressed,  however the gun-fund is a little low.

Besides form 1 and adding the American parts kit to fulfill the 922r requirements, what else do i need to be aware of?

Since I did not build it, do I still need my name on receiver?

I actually like the purchase permit-for one reason. Those who are not interested in carrying can use it to bypass NICS phonecall.

I hate that it's a requirement to buy a handgn, don't get me wrong-but the side benefit is good.

yes. Since you're changing the classification legally you did build it.

If you buy a factory SBR the factory engravings are all you need.

What's the final word on the ruling as it pertains to the board of regents schools. Looks like carry is still prohibited on any school grounds?

Eta:Kind of conflicting to me to toss board of regents under political subdivision, yet keep college campuses under the old 280 definition of school.

Indeed. It's a shame as that's the one that probably effects me the most day to day (work on campus), but overall this was a pretty big win.

Does IA's Concealed Weapon permit apply to anything other than handguns?  Our CCW license allows artificial knuckles, nunchakus, death stars, various blades, etc.

Also does it bypass a NICS check on the 4473?

Yes, long guns, knives everything. Also it's a permit to carry.  Doesn't matter if open or concealed. And yes it allows us to bypass NICS.

If permit issued after 12/31/2010 no training for renewal.

724.7
All permits issues after the effective date of this division of this Act shall be for the life of the permit holder and shall be valid throughout the state three days after the date of an application for a permit to carry weapons... Etc etc

It's the very first section of hf517

 1  7    1.  A person shall not knowingly possess a short=barreled
1  8 rifle or short=barreled shotgun in violation of federal law.
 1  9    2.  A person who possesses a short=barreled rifle or
 1 10 short=barreled shotgun in violation of subsection 1 commits a
 1 11 class "D" felony.

HF517  I am pretty sure this is the most recent version of the bill. Nothing about lifetime permits in Division 3. I am pretty sure that was taken out early on.

Ok, someone help me read this legal jargon b.s.

H.F.517
OFFENSIVE WEAPONS
Section1.

Short-barreled rifle or short-barreled shotgun——penalty.61.

For purposes of this section, “short-barreled rifle” or “short-barreled shotgun” means the same as defined in 18U.S.C.8§921.92.

A person shall not knowingly possess a short-barreled rifle or short-barreled shotgun in violation of federal law.

113. A person who possesses a short-barreled rifle or short-barreled shotgun in violation of subsection 1 commits a class “D” felony.

How does this now mean sbs and sbr are now legal once Branstad signs?

So, "in violation of Federal law" means legal to own and possess in the State of Iowa?

For the bill that legalized Suppressors,

HF 2279: AN ACT RELATING TO POSSESSING AND TRANSFERRING FIREARM SUPPRESSORS

C. A certification that has been approved under this section grants the person the authority to make or transfer a firearm suppressor as provided by state and federal law.

I see nothing in HF517, that grants us authority to own or make SBR or SBS?
