Lots of good answers, thanks everyone. So what's the deal with barrel length on .22 LRs. I assume it's the same deal as any other rifle, longer barrel, higher velocity, shorter barrel means it's lighter and more manuverable. What's considered to be a "long barrel" in .22 LR vs a "short barrel"? From what I've seen, 16" or 16 1/2" is on the short end of the spectrum, and 20" is on the longer end.

.22 lr is a dirty round.5.56 burns completely in 20 ",not in less.Don't worry about barrel length with a.22 LR.Focus on the kids needs.
