First, the celebratory stuff:

We have a small mandoline slicer but looking for something more substantial that won't break the bank. Would be nice to have a "julienne" attachment.

This one by OXO seems to fit the bill and was curious to know if anyone has one or something similar they could recommend.

I believe I can get this at 20% off with a coupon.

I have the Cuisanart one that appears down at the bottom of the page and have been happy with it. Very sturdy and easy to clean. I've had good luck with OXO's stuff so the one you're looking at is probably good as well although the blade shape is unusual/different. Don't know if that's better or worse.

That would be close to the same price as Amazons Best Seller with your coupon but the Oxo has rubber feet. I believe they are both made in China.

I've been wanting one myself. I see my BB&B has them in stock and it seems like they even honor expired coupons.

The Oxy or any other other plastic mandolines will do okay on light, home duty kitchen work, but they are basically consumables.  If you want a mandoline which can do serious work and last a lot longer, the Braun is  the better choice.

I have the OXO one that you linked to. It has worked very well for me and is easy to clean.

No matter which one you go with, always understand that the slicer doesn't care if it's the food or your fingers and will slice all equally.  I learned the hard way.

I had a pretty neat Japanese one, but it just plain fell apart after about 10 years. I’m looking for one myself...
