I assembled an upper for friend with a Aero BAR nut a little while ago and was dismayed with the available options for barrel nut wrenches to properly torque the barrel nut. Most of the options I explored had reviews with people having to file or otherwise modify the wrench to get it to fit. So I made my own. It worked so well I decided to make some more for community members that feel or have felt the same as me.
The wrenches were made by water jet cutting 3/8" thick hot-rolled 7075-T651 aluminum plate (roughly twice the strength of common mild steel). The pins are .1875" diameter, 3/4" long 4140 alloy steel dowel pins in a .002" interference fit hole. The wrench uses a 1/2" square drive for use with torque wrenches. Also fits Mil-Spec barrel nuts, but I haven't tested it on one.
