Every RIS II I have ever owned has done this, including many right out of the packaging from factory grease.
I think the OP was referring to the way the lettering looks "smeared" or "wet."
This is why I was wanting him to post a video wiping the lettering with acetone and a q tip. I have personally seen exactly what he is referring to on many real fresh out of foil RIS II's. It's likely just oil/residue buildup from preservative that sticks to the lasering. Spray it with some brake cleaner and scrub with a toothbrush or wipe with acetone and I would be willing to bet his issue clears up.
I am going to say it's real.
Also, there are many other factors that the OP can show to determine if it is a real RIS II. Show some more pics of the rail, the heli coil inserts for the bottom rail, the front of the rail where it will likely have 2 bare spots of alluminum showing from where it was anodized etc.
If I had a dollar for every time a company representative has been wrong about their product, I would have probably 3 dollars lol.
