I purchased an Remington RGP upper from SuaSponte175, listing is here
The upper was listed as “brand new”, but what I received indicates otherwise. A brand new item should be unused, without wear or signs of use, outside of factory test firing. I understand there might be a small threshold on a firearm or upper, such as small blemishes during the mfg stage under the anodizing, but the upper I received is in a condition beyond his description.
Specifically, the charging handle was caked in carbon on the underside with finish worn and missing, and the bcg had clear wear spots through the surface treatment, indicating a higher round count. It was clear that sights had been attached at some point, and there are advanced wear marks where the charging handle locks into the upper. I have two of these uppers that I had previously purchased new from other sources, a 14.5” currently with under 200 rounds through it, and a 16.5” that is still new. Using these two uppers as a baseline it’s clear that this upper is in a condition it shouldn’t be when brand new.
I corresponded with SuaSponte175 via email and pointed out these issues. He said that he may have swapped the charging handle out at some point, and never acknowledged the other issues, insisting the upper was unfired. I think it’s plain that unfired is not the same as brand new. With the visible red flags, it’s hard to trust the veracity of the rest of his claims.
I asked for a refund and asked he also pay for return shipping due to the mismatched condition. I gave him 24 hours to respond and received no response. I informed him that if I did not hear from him by the end of today that I would post a thread here. He was responsive until I insisted on a refund. I’m reluctantly posting this thread as I had hoped to work this out between us. At this point the only acceptable resolution would be a refund.
