I bought a bolt carrier from someone on this forum for a decent price.
Only thing is that guy didn't tell me it had issues, sold it with out telling me.
Anyhow, issue was with 1 of the front gas key screws, the 1 upfront was too long.
Yes, long by 3 threads, which is enough to interfere with the bolt even sitting in it.
This was last year, guy is long gone, no reply to my emails. Being dishonest isn't nice.
I had a bad year medically, thus the reason it sat so long, in my spare parts bin, waiting.
So, not ever messing with one, not having staking tools or the proper screws, took it
to a local gunsmith that promised to fix it as it should be. Big mistake, he made it worst.
He reused the same screw. I was in the trades all my life (retired now), know better then
to reuse a bolt or screw that was torqued once. He also trimmed the extra threads to fit.
Never bothering to clean the thread sealant off it, he stated it didn't need to be cleaned.
He snapped it 3/4 of the way in. Handed to me & blamed the carrier that it's a bad one.
Insult to injury, his wife gives me the bums rush out the door. At least he didn't charge me!
I'm tired of buying on line, a good local place would of been nice to shop, I won't shop there.
NOW, I've a busted screw in the hole. Good he didn't attempt to insert & set the 2nd screw.
I was able (I'm handy working with metal), to drill & easy out the busted screw, it was a PITA.
Now I'm needing proper 8/32x1/4" screws. Not from China or India & not hardware store.
I know I'll have to eat shipping for 2 screws, so be it; this is life in America, expensive at best.
What I'd like to know is who has the best screws made in USA, in this configuration:
8/32" x 1/4" Rockwell hardness of C37 Meets ASTM A574 standards & heat-treated for hardness?
Lots of companies offer screws, but do not go into the specs or what country of orgin, etc.
Upon calling a few (waste of time), could not tell me any specs or even whom made them.
At this point I know I'm going to spend at least (with shipping), upwards to 20$ for a pair.
Any help to resolve this carrier issue would be appreciated! Tired of being screwed! LOL!
