I am looking to upgrade from my M&P PRO 9L to a better competition gun such as an STI or potentially a Sig X-Five. I'm looking specifically at the STI Eagle w/bushing (still IDPA legal) or the Sig X-Five Enhanced Tactical, both in 9MM. The X-Five doesn't seem to be all that popular in the sport whereas the STI takes dominance. STI has a higher price-point of just shy of $2,000 whereas the X-Five ranges around the $1,500 price-point. STI mags run around $64 while the X-Fives run closer to $100 per mag.
I'm leaning towards the STI but am rather hesitant to jump due to the price-point. Once purchased, is the STI (generally) ready to run out of the box with a few extra factory mags or is there some necessary tuning before it's ready to rock? I'm not looking for a super-tuned, out of this world race gun for now; just wanting it to function reliably. I would hate to drop $2k on a handgun and then another chunk to get it tuned a week after picking it up. I've also heard that some of the more recent STI's have had some functional issues; that's hearsay at this point. Any confirmation on recent purchases?
Any thoughts, opinions and experiences would be appreciated.
