What barrel length are you running on your 3 Gun AR?
Just count the barrel length to the muzzle (do not add length for your muzzle device). |

Man I thought most people ran 16". I feel better about keeping my 18" now.

I'm currently running a 20" 1:9 heavy profile barrel.
I'm building a new 3gun rifle and it will have an 18" 1:8 fluted medium profile rifle length gas barrel. I hope it will be as accurate on the long range stages out to 500 yards. |

20" used to be real popular 4 or more years ago. the 18" is now the most common on purpose built guns. Id bet $ that the beginner uses a 16" for their first few matches until the buy an 18".

It depends on the match but I have a 20inch, a 16 inch and a 10.5 inch I use

Though I can make decent shots with irons with a 16" m4 out to 200. Just not as consistently, I'll probably end up throwing a 1-4 on that as well. |

Does the 18" mainly just offer better balance? I figure if you were running irons the extra length would be beneficial, but otherwise the extra velocity isn't that signifcant (over a 16"), and barrel length really has no bearing on accuracy. So, is it mainly for balance issues?

So e guys on the pro series have traded the lessor recoil of the 18" for a 16" mid because they want a lighter shorter gun to whip around 180 to 180 like we often do in the pro series. Obviously any gun will work and be competitive. If your chasing minimum sight movement low mass internals, adj gas, rifle gas system, huge comp and a heavy gun keeps the sight the most stable. Personally I like my sights to stay put. |

My local 2/3 gun matches are mostly CQ, with occasional shots out to ~150yd.
I usually shoot a 7.5" SBR or 8" suppressed .300blk and I've won a time or two with each
