Hey all,
I've wanted a cut down, pistol grip double barrel since forever. Maybe too many movies or maybe that much firepower in a small package appeals to me. Is it worth it to get a cheapy side by side, pay the stamp, and cut it down? I'm thinking with like 8" barrels it might be a fun range toy with low recoil slugs, and a good car/travel gun. anybody have one they actually use or am I just trying to justify it? I figure all in with a used gun and stamp I should be under $500, and I've spent more on dumber shit. |

Have been thinking the same think. I have a cheap $100 side by side that I have been considering chopping. I think you should do it.

Look around for a used one.
The add will say "Only fired a few times." |
|

There was a movie quite a while back, where the central character carried one of those.

Was it worth it? Since I only paid $200 for the O/U and another $200 for the stamp and take it out just about every time I go to the range to turn some heads...................I would say it is worth it. http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww297/LittleAce1/IMG_1388_zps15vnogki.jpg http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww297/LittleAce1/IMG_1387_zpsnqpg6rxj.jpg http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww297/LittleAce1/IMG_1383_zpsvoc5fd2n.jpg View Quote Was that a regular stock cut down? Finished up with sandpaper and painted with a pebble finish (granite color) enamel. |

I have one in 20-ga. with 9.5" barrels, and I absolutely love it. I inherited it in 2005, and since then I've probably put a couple thousand rounds through it -- mostly field loads; buckshot and slugs are less fun to shoot. It's a big hit at machine gun shoots! I have shot them in 12-ga. -- and even with light loads, those are not as much fun. I'll stick to my 20 ga.! Some pix of mine at rest and in action: http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/1498longandshort.jpg http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/DSC_01151.JPG http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/1498bearsbark1.jpg A friend shooting her -- that's one barrel. Pull both triggers at once and you double the blast!: http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/1498johnbear1.jpg And my Hatcher holster (the four extra rounds make it a six-shooter! ): http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/1498bearinholsterA.gif View Quote Pics aren't working for me :/ edited when I quoted your thread I can see them. weird. Anyway, yeah I think I've seen these pictures before and that's the inspiration for what I'm trying to do. |

I absolutely love my stoeger side by side. Highly recommend a double barrel SxS of some sort.

In all seriousness, that is bitchin' ! I definitely need one. |

I have a Stoger Coach sxs that I had cut down to about 8". It's a hoot to shoot, well worth the $550. I spent on it......

I have a Stoger 12ga that I got for $75. I cut it down to match the one in Road Warrior. It has 12" barrels and is quite fun to shoot. I like the 12ga better than a 20ga for the simple reason of ammo choice. I shoot the Agula mini shells out of mine. They are like shooting a .357. I don't think light game loads are bad at all to shoot. I can shoot buck shot one handed... One of my favorite stamped guns.

And here I was under the impression we couldn't build one of these if the receiver had at some point been registered as a shotgun? Store local to me has a 12 ga SXS that I could pick up for probably 25 bucks considering the stock is broke off. I dismissed it because I didn't think we could cut them off to pistol length for some reason. Just a regular Form 1 required?

View Quote You can build one...it's just an SBS instead of an AOW if it's had a stock. It's $200 either way on a Form 1, so the SBS route gives you more flexibility anyway. |

anybody have a decent double barrel to sell to contribute to this build Idea? I'h having trouble finding one, and my wife loves "her" double barrel I bought years ago, so I'm not allowed to cut that one :/

Probably gets equal head turning as my machine gun
But it is near zero percent practical lolol I still love it though. I justify everything by thinking of how fun it is, never on practicality I say by all means do it, and I would say don't expect to take it to the range every time but apparently people do! Theirs look cooler than mine though |

BTW, despite what the reviewer says, you can safely shoot it one-handed with a little practice View Quote That's true. I've fired my blaster one-handed many times (aka, "Mad Max-style" - see the truck-chase scene in Road Warrior). In fact, most of the pellet hits on that bad-guy target (pic above) were made firing it one-handed. 9" tubes may sound short, but in 20ga the felt-recoil isn't that bad, plus the Bisley-shaped (curved) grip allows the gun to "roll up," rather than back into your hand. (Now, 12ga on the other hand .... Not even going to go there). On these shorty blasters, the shape of the grip has A LOT to do with aggravating or dampening felt recoil. |

Here is photos of a recent build for a customer.....making the pistol grip and inletting it was @#$%! I can tell you. Results were great though.

I have a Stoger 12ga that I got for $75. I need to shop the kind of places y'all do. I want to do a .410 SxS SBS...happened to be one across the aisle from me at the gun show yesterday. $379 (Stoeger) which was at least $75 less than most of the ones I saw on GB. But, I'd much rather start with a $75-$100 host. |

Just finished this. My staining and finishing job is a bit shitty but I'm not a wood worker. Wished I would have went with more of a grey or black stain. May have to refinish with a darker tone at some point. Haven't shot it yet either.
Attached File ETA: Changed it a bit. Didn't like the brightly colored and shiney wood. Attached File |

I have a Browning Citori Featherlite 12g that had an unfortunate incident on a quail hunt - another hunter swung left on a bird while the guy holding this O/U swung right, and the browning took a contact shot to the barrels on the last 8 or so inches of barrel.
The barrels are fine to just about a four inches beyond the forestock, where they start to bend. Also, the stock busted when the shotgun landed on the ground after departing the arms of the shooter. So, while it was a heck of a nice shotgun, it will take a lot of money to get it up and going again. Orrrrr, I can just form 1 it Can anyone recommend a shop to cut the barrels, put on a gold bead front sight and thread for chokes? I am thinking that I'll have it cut to the last rib beyond the forestock, which will be 15" . Or I could go to the rib flush with the front of the stock, which would be 13". And then choked. Maybe hard chrome the barrels to match the stainless receiver? See pics: Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Stamp filed, now to figure out how to make the grip work since there is a bolt going through the rear of the stock to secure it to the receiver.

I still want one of these. I bought a cheap Ithaca 20 to practice cutting the barrels but think I would still rather have a shop do one since I would mess up the wood at a minimum.
