German. For aircraft MG cannon. Hard to tell looks 20 25mm.

Electric primed handle with care. Don't shuffle around carpet in socks and pick that up touching primer.

20MM cannon were used on FW190's and in the nose of most Bf 109's after the E model. The 44 date code means either a Fw190 or Bf 109G-6

lol, no...

Nothing illegal about it, no HE present, do you turn in live .50 cal API to the popo?

No more dangerous than any other cartridge...

Issue is 20mm is over 1/2in so then it is ammo for a destructive device.
Assuming it is live, that can be a illegal to posses, or in a legal grey zone depending on your state.

Unless the ammo itself is explosive, DD ammo is perfectly legal to possess.  40mm chalk rounds, for example, are legally no different than a box of sporting ammo.

Yep...

And actually if it has less than a 1/2 ounce of HE, it is legal...i.e. Vietnam era practice 40mm rounds had a small, less than 1/2 ounce, RDX charge to disperse the marking powder at impact.

So, if you could find a live round, it would be perfectly legal to own.

ETA Oh, and .55 Boyes ammo is legal to own...as long as its not HE filled, no issue (Federally, states/localities can be different)...15mm, 20mm, 30mm, 40mm on up...TP, plain AP with no HE filler, no issue.
