just wondering what you think of the quality of the american vs the italian made.  hear some things about the italian one being a bit tighter fit and less smooth.

I have the Italian version and it's well done.  The lock doesn't lend to a "smooth" opener, but it's not bad.  Fit and finish is excellent.  If I recall, LionSteel is making them for Cold Steel and they're a very reputable Italian manufacturer.  I had heard the USA made versions were hit or miss with attention to detail, but they no longer make them...it's just the imported version.  For the current price difference, the Italian version is very much the better deal.
