I installed a baffle in my Dillon Powder Measure a few years back and can't decide if it helps or hinders.

I have the PM apart to clean and may or may not put the baffle back in.

What's everyones thoughts?

Thanks,
John

all mine came that way so I would say yes.

There is a baffle built into mine, so i would say yes.

I'm also not sure how they could be a hindrance.

The baffle is to keep the weight of the powder over the slide consistent.  That makes it throw more uniform. But your decision.

How much it helps depends on the powder.

I assume you're talking about something like in the pictures above. I use them and have had very good results with them using Power Pistol and 2400. It's hard to say if they're noticeably better than the normal single baffle that comes built into the hopper.

I should have mentioned to start that my PM is 20 years or more old.

I thought I added the single baffle a few years back but am not certain.

Thanks for the replies!

I've never had a problem with the integral baffle in the dillon. No reason to add one. Might want to read this...

Dryflash3- thanks for getting me on the right track: I was addressing the drop in aluminum baffle and not the integral plastic baffle.

Twitchinator- thanks for the link.  I just buffed up the interior and powder bar channel on my PM and am on the fence about re-installing the

aluminum baffle.

Dillon PM's come with a baffle installed.

So no added baffle needed.

With proper technique, a Dillon PM as it comes from Dillon will throw ball powder exact, flake + or- .1 gr.

the Dillon baffle is molded into the clear plastic.

If you want to know why a baffle, the problem is vibration.
On a progressive the charge bar is sitting in the fill position, vibration from walking past or working on your bench will be making the powder settle,
making the charge heavier.
On a progressive this can be a problem.

Baffle or no, I recycle the first few charges when starting a new reloading session.

I used my Uniflow for 25 years without a baffle. For $2 I figured why not. So now 6 years later I still don't know if it's doing anything positive but I'm pretty sure that it's not hurting.

I never leave powder sitting in the Dillon, unless I'm actively loading.

No baffle in mine, but when I'm done reloading I put the powder away.

This.  An extra one isn't needed.

I made a baffle for my Lee dispenser out of a cat food can lid.  Works great.

I'm curious if anyone has used one of these extra baffles while using  IMR4064 , varget or the like and did it make any noticeable difference?
