I often move around my Dead Air Mask(s).

They are frequently stuck on the barrel.

Has anyone found a small wrench or spanner that works well to loosen it as well as fitting in the range bag?

Thanks

My crappy Harbor Freight Calipers say 1-1/32" or 26.20mm

Wonder if this would work:

This or a crescent wrench.  That's what it was designed for.  Trust me.

ETA:  If you don't own any Knipex pliers, you're not living life right.

See? That's why this place is so awesome. I'm gathering funds to pick up a few xeno muzzle devices and few other small items from Hansohn, I had wanted one these wrenches after reading this a while back. Good to know!

I ordered one and am excited about it, but still highly recommend anyone with user serviceable cans have small rubber strap wrench (and wood dowels).

Not sure if it’s the best product or not but I usually make it a point to apply some grease to the threads to help avoid a can getting stuck on.

The description says "This tool will work with the front and rear caps of the Dead Air Mask." From the picture, I see how it fits over the rear plug, but.. the front? Doesn't it need a set of pins to engage the cap?

Any thought of doing an open ended wrench so you could use it to take the silencer off the firearm?

I designed this and 3D printed it. Works perfect.

I should have patented it.

Non-marring, and I'm working on a version that will have swappable inserts for different sizes cans. This one works with any 1" diameter can though.

Pro tip: when removing the silencer, pull/cant the silencer off center slightly to keep the mount secure in the silencer. Also, if the mount is really stuck to the host, continue unscrewing the can from the mount, then use the tool to remove the mount from the host.

@HanoshnBrothers  Unless I'm really missing something, the pins on the tool do not align with the takedown holes in the end cap and the rear part of the can cannot be removed if stuck on a host using the tool because of the way the Mask is designed.  It did make some sweet superficial scratches on my end cap just lightly applying it, though.

Just looking at it shows the pins are not evenly spaced like they need to be to fit the end cap.  Going to stick with a small rubber strap wrench and the DA factory tool or Suppressortools.com part (the factory tool works best, but the ST one will at least not scratch up the finish).

I keep a strap wrench in my shooting bag these days for that purpose

Obviously you'll want to wait for it to cool down a bit before putting a rubber strap around it, but they work really well.

Thanks for stepping up and fixing these!  Already got my shipping notification .  Hopefully this eliminates my need to use both the DA tool and a strap wrench.

I received the new version of the Dead Air Mask tool.

It doesn't quite do exactly what I was hoping but still works.

With this use case, I have a Mask that fits real tight to the handguard and often gets stuck.  The wrench is open ended but doesn't slide around completely, but it does get a sort of tooth grip on it to loosen it up.  This method does mar the Mask a little but no big deal:

The wrench slides onto the mounting part of the mask very nicely if it is removed:

The cap tool works perfectly as well:

The form factor is exactly what I was looking for, I wanted something slim to keep in my range bag.  I have a ton of tools in there so smaller the better.

The wrench is a solid tool I needed in my tool box.

I recommend you use a thin adjustable wrench in this situation.  Maybe even Rockset the rear mount in place and use a pusher to get the baffles out.

I recommend not buying it in the first place.  @HansohnBothers you tried, but it really isn't up to task for what it was intended for.  Great customer service, but would not recommend this product to anyone.  It scratches up the finish, mine doesn't fit well and a strap wrench is a better option.  Hopefully Gen 3 will be better.

Hey man, what's the OD on the Mask? Exactly 1"?

If so I'll print you one of my "strap" wrenches and send it to you. Just give me some honest feedback on if you think it's commercially viable.

You can check out pics above. It's the largest one in the pic I posted about halfway down the page.

All Dead Air had to do was put flats on the mount cap instead of those scalloped lightening cuts. Weight could have been reduced somewhere else. A special wrench for a rimfire can is sub-optimal. Yeah, it looks cool. CADgineers strike again.
