I just added a pair of needlenose pliers to my range bag, could have come in handy last night.

What tools do you all keep in your range bag?  Off the top my head I have:

- Hex keys for optic mounts
- Pliers
- Special tools for optics
- Extra batteries
- Cleaning kit

I have an all-day class Saturday, just trying to think of anything I'm missing.

Thanks!

Multitool and Borka torque driver set.

Now thinking about it, I used to carry a USGI M16 kit. Not sure where I put it, but the cleaning rods came in handy a few times helping people with squibs.

A rubber mallot. That may sound strange but I end up using is often at the range.

All the usual tools for maintenance and a rubber mallet to knock open stuck bolt guns usually on my buddies guns that won't trim their brass no matter how many times I explain it to them.

A EDC or range bag specific knife would also be good. I just carry my plain old Buck knife but I see the 4" blade to bit a too big for a range bag carry. Also, seems like its kitchen knife style and thin sharp blade is not liked by many. Lot of my friends and folks who borrowed it at the range cut their fingers pretty bad by accident . Me personally, I have never used it outside of my hunting trips.

Just for reference, this is the one I have and am talking about....

Any other good recommended knives for range bags?

I normally don’t carry much since my range is at home.  I did however buy a fixit sticks set and they are worth the price.  I honestly didn’t think it would be but I’m now a fan.

So now fix it sticks kit with the 10-65in lbs limiter. A watchmaker type set of bits a leather man and some oil.   If I’m traveling I take a pelican case full of everything I’d use to clean or repair whatever I’m shooting

Painters tape to cover weapon light lenses
Sunscreen
Harris bipod
Magpul bipod
Gerber multitool
CLP wipes
Primary and spare hearing protection
Sandbags
Rubber mallet
Cleaning rods
Wooden dowel for pistol squibs
Store plastic bags to use as trash bags

Last class I also had also brought another rifle, spare optic, a spare BCG, spare bolt carrier, a spare bolt, spare firing and cam pins, and an assembled extractor.

In hindsight I should have also brought a spare belt and chest carrier with all the fixings as well as some extra kneepads. I saw gear failure out there. Not enough to stop the class but it did make me think about it afterwards.

For pliers mentioned in the OP, @amphibian turned me on to Knipex pliers, they’re awesome, and here’s a blurb covering their benefits.

Strap wrench. Has helped with cross threaded scope turret covers and locked up cans/muzzle devices.

And because it's rubber, no marring.

I have an assortment box full of 1/4" inserts and a 1/4" insert hand driver. A pair of needle nose, a mini channel lock pliers and a soft towel. Thinking about putting my armorers wrench in it too.

A multi hex wrench tool, a couple dedicated gun multitools like the Gerber Efect, a small crescent wrench, a Leatherman Wave and probably a couple things I can't remember.

I'm always shooting with my sister who has some different gun multitools than I have so between the two of us, there's not been an issue we couldn't fix yet.  I'm sure one will pop up eventually but so far so good.

A dead-blow hammer to coax AK/M1A/FAL charging handles back or Mosin-Nagant bolt-handles if needed.

For my MP5 - spare extractor spring and complete recoil spring assembly

For AR - spare bolt, different weight buffers, buffer spring, firing pin.

A set of metric and standard Allen wrenches
Cleaning kits including a bore snake for every caliber
A bread pan to keep parts out of the dirt and to use as a wash basin if needed
A set of hollow-ground screw driver bits and a handle
Any special sight tools - AK, HK, AR, UZI, etc.
Any special mounting or adjustment tools that came with optics, accessories and such
Brass punches and hammer
wooden dowels of various diameter
A can of WD40 (I know, it will reduce my guns to useless lumps of metal)

If I am shooting corrosive primers, I bring a plastic “coffee can” with brushes, pull throughs and a bottle of Balistol along with a couple bottles of water.

This is all stuff I keep in a tool box in the car. Obviously, I am not carrying all this around with me.

I specifically DON’T bring any files or other tools for removing metal. The range is really not the time nor place to be making rash but permanent changes to a malfunctioning firearm.

Needle nose pliers
Multi tool
Markers
Masking Tape
Screwdrivers
Adjustable pliers
Oil
Grease
Scissors
Paper towels/cleaning rag

And for some f*cking reason, I tear a fingernail half off just about every range trip.
So I’ve added:

Fingernail clippers
Baby wipes (because once you have them for the kid you wonder how you ever went without them)
And sunscreen

Leatherman, interchangeable tip screwdriver. If I can't fix it with those 2 things, I'll just put it away and take care of it when I get home. I usually have multiple firearms with me so I'll just pivot to those and finish my day.

ETA: that's just a fun whatever range day. If it's a class or somewhere further away, I'm taking more than that. Adjustable wrench, pack of hex keys (or torx depending on what gun I'm taking), cleaning kit and/or rod, and spare batteries (if there aren't any already stowed on the gun).

All of what you listed plus a wheeler FAT wrench for precise torque specs. Also like to keep a knife and a flashlight in there.

Other highlights include an OTIS cleaning kit, big cheap bag of ear plugs and a cheapy Glock mag loader.

My range bag turned into a range box, and is well stocked.  It has everything.  It's kind of a pain in the ass to take to the range, but when you need it, you need it.

Strap wrenches
Punches
Every special tool that ever came with anything gun related
Pistol sight adjusting tools
Hammers
Punches
Every screwdriver made
Cleaning stuff
Crescent wrenches, small medium and large
Barrel wrenches
Receiver extension wrenches
Nut drivers
Spare parts for ARs and HKs
 Every spring in an AR
 Buffers of different weights
 Spare bolts and carriers
 Firing pins
Files
Lube
Rags
AK sight adjuster
Ruptured case extractors in several calibers
AA, AAA, CR123 and coin cell batteries
Ear plugs

Probably a bunch of other stuff I can't think of right now.
