I have M1907's on the pre-1944 rifles and the cotton web slings on the post 1944 rifles.

I prefer the M1907 leather sling.  Still issued today after 111 yrs.

Turner Saddlery makes the finest M1907 slings on the market.

But they are not cheap.

I think there was a GD thread where someone said there's a company that will stamp your S/n in the sling. I thought that was cool

For general carting around the late WW2 and later web sling is fine. For use in shooting positions like prone and sitting most people find the m1907 superior. There are several makers of the leather 1907 sling such as turner and les tam and some others. Turner also makes a version called biothane which is a type of rubber like material as well. Despite adoption in early ww2 almost all slings, used,in the ww2 era were leather and even into the Korean era as well. The web sling did not see near universal service use until the mid 1950’s

I was just acting some re-enactors today about slings.  They like the cotton web sings for their events.

I do really enjoy shooting with a nice leather (or Biothane, on my AR) sling, though.

Same here.  Several M1's, several slings.  They work great for sitting in the safe, carrying the rifle on your shoulder or shooting from a good sling supported firing position (prone or sitting).

I have 1944 cotton slings on all my rifles except my Fluffy one. It has a 1907 and is also the one I hunt with

Turner leather 1907 slings for WWII Garands, M1903, M1903A3 and M1917.

USGI cotton for post war Garands.

I actually prefer the cotton slings. They are very easy to adjust and cheap. Never had issues with slipage or stretching when shooting high power.

Used as a carry strap and hasty sling the M1 Sling is simple and easy.  Getting strapped into the M1907 Sling takes me some time.

Yeah, I agree the 1907/Turner slings are a PITA to get in and out off for other than Match competition shooting. There's one on my across-the-course NM M1.

But on my other Garands,  like my JCG M1, I have the GI cotton slings. A few of mine are actually genuine WW2 slings (dated).

I found my leather sling on Amazon for around $49 and I'm very pleased with it.
Looks great on my M1.

I have a Turner sling and absolutely love it. I nabbed a brass hardware one because I love the look. I also have two other 1907 slings, one cheaper aftermarket and the other a USGI one for the M14.

Not the finest but close but I will concede hey are the best value for the money and what I buy.

Les Tam and another guy I cannot remember his name made some nicer slings.    I am happy with the Turners they’re better than the USGI ones were and are a damn good sling.

I have to agree I can shoot just fine with a M1 cotton sling.  The nylon black version did slip on the issue bdu shirt sleeve.

I have a couple biothanenturner slings too.  Talk about slowing you down.  They don’t slip though!

I have a couple of cotton web slings from AmmoGarand iirc.

I also found a local surplus seller who had a box of 1980s vintage MRT M1907s in original bags w/NSN. Bought most of them and was able to rehydrate/treat/rescue about half of them. Some were basically dust that looked like leather- they went to the great sling box in the sky (minus their hardware which my buddy wanted).
