Hi everyone!

Just joined this awesome forum and I look forward to learning a lot.

I have been researching reloading rigs.  Just wanted to ask for some input here.

I did lots of reloading of .223 in the 1970's using a RCBS that I no longer have.

My specific needs are to reload .223 and 9mm's.  I plan on reloading a lot because I do competitive shooting and training.

What reloader do you recommend for me for reloading .223/.556?

I have been seriously been looking at the Dillon Precision XL 750 Reloading Press (75076) on Ebay.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Soar

Can you be more specific as to what you mean by "a lot."

What kind of budget do you have?

Are you specifically going stay with 223 and 9mm? Or will you set up other calibers at a later date?

Lastly, how much free time do you have?

Welcome to the reloading forum, where we excell at spending other people's money.

750XL.  It will eat all your components.  It is revelation in .223.  I size with lube, case tumble them clean, cut to length, deburr, and drill primer holes.  Once you get that done, it goes really fast.  The best part is the press primes the cases without any drama.  I use a ball powder in .223 for slick operation.  It spits out 9mm too by the bucket.  The 550 you have to turn the shell plate each time and the 650/750 turns it for you.  Very nice.  It is designed to run with the automatic shell sorter which is pricey.  I bought a six tube shell feeder from Titan that works almost as good for maybe $75.  I have loaded over 6,000 shells in two and half years. 9mm. 223, .40 and 10mm.

I may buy a second one for .308/.30-06 although you can get any shell plate.  But one set up for small primers and one for large is ideal.

Depending budget and  volume needed as a ratio of time available to load.....
550 for moderate expense and in a couple hours you have 1000 rounds of pistol.  If you have prepped (trimmed, demurred, primer pockets swaged) rifle brass then a little longer or the same using a smooth as water flowing ball powder.

I load everything on a Rockchucker.

Most of what I load are low volume high precision or load development.

When I load volume (coincidentally mostly 223 and 9mm) I curse the day because I don't have a progressive press.

Look also at the Dillon 550.  Rather than a deficit, the manual rotation of the shell plate is a benefit.  It allows you to use it as simple single stage if you'd like.  If you go progressive, rotating the shell plate does not appreciably slow things down in any way.

Is 300 - 400 rifle rounds per hour enough for you?

Is 400 - 500 pistol rounds per hour enough for you?

Those are the max rates you can get with a 550.  If you need more than that, you need a 750 or more with a case feeder.

I use a Dillon 550 for .223 and 9mm.

.223-

One tool head for prep- deprime, FL resize and trim.

Then tumble the lube off and use a drill to ream primer pockets.

Second tool head to load- prime, drop powder, seat bullets and crimp.
