I was gifted this rifle from my dad. Apparently it was the rifle used when I shot my first deer.
   Remington 700 in .243. I'd like to change out the scope to something better and shoot it till the barrel is worn out. |

My guess is those are the screws that filled the scope mounting holes. Then after the scope was mounted, were re-used to fill the holes where the fixed sights were.
