Picked up a almost brand new RL 500B from a garage sale, came with a 3 tool heads, 2 powder measures (one brand new), unused strong mount and bullet tray. Only one caliber change kit but it was $350 so I don't think I did too bad.

I've been getting my old (circa 1985-ish) Dillon 550 setup again after many years of not loading.  Took it apart - cleaned, oiled, and tuned it up.

I've ordered and have started receiving the parts I've lost during 5 moves or never had to begin with.  I want to get everything setup for quick change on several calibers.  I've ordered some enhancements for the press while I'm at it.  When I'm finished next week, I'll have quick change setups for 9mm, 45ACP, 5.56, 300BLK, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 6.5CM.  Then I can start replenishing my inventory since I've just about used up all of my old reloads.  Also making a couple thousand rounds of 45 practice ammo for a friend.

That should keep me busy for a little while.  Then I need to make a decision about spending the $$$ to get quick change setups for my remaining calibers; 380ACP, 38/357, 44 Spc/Mag, 40 S&W, 30-30 Win, 30 Rem (not AR), 30-06, 7.62x54R.  I may just get one quick change setup and get the dies setup with locking rings for all of these, since I have never loaded more than a few hundred of each over the years.

While digging thru all of the boxes, I have found a number of extra RCBS and LEE dies and die sets.  Is it worth the effort to clean them up and take pictures to put them on EE?

Thanks,
Steve

Decided to load a couple of magazines worth of the 62 gr SP blems for any coyote opportunities

Cases were already trimmed from a while back but only had time enough to prime them

Noticed some light rust developing on a small portion of the seating die and took care of that
Funny, thought they were safe as I have them in the cases in a tight Tupperware container and were supposedly oiled

Other dies were fine but gave them a precautionary light oiling

Decapped about 90 35 Rem cases and another 50 7mm cases.  Then threw them in the wet tumbler with a bunch of other brass I'd been meaning to clean.  Got them in the dehydrator now.

Also found some of the 35 Rem appears to be pretty old.  The headstamp is "WRA Co", which from my research looks to be pre WW2. I'll probably save them just for the novelty.

Deprimed and sized ~500 pieces of 30 Carbine brass, will get them in the wet tumbler in the next few days. Inspected some LC 5.56 brass for dents before running them through the 1050 to make 300 Blackout. The dented stuff will get processed into 5.56 blasting loads to blow out the dents.

I got on the phone with Dillon, and found really good pricing on most of what I needed to go from 45 ACP to .223.

The sales people I dealt where awesome.

Broke out the FART for the first time and wet-tumbled a light load of .577 Snider and .303 British brass.  Came out pretty nice.

Also took a fresh cut at some bullet casting.  Managed to make 15 passable .575 Minie bullets with a lot of hassle.  Last time I cast some was many years ago.  I don't know what I used for a heat source then, but the butane burner I used today was too hot, I think.  For sure need more practice.

Tumbling some 458 socom brass...

While sober, for real, bid on an upper on gunbroker to see how much it was at. Ended up winning it. Only bid $5 increments till I was winning... Guess I found the guys limit.

Looking at bullets and moulds for it now...

Sized and trimmed 70 pieces of 223

Trimmed 80 pieces of 308  with the new rcbs three way cutter

Pulled down reloads that were given to me 30~32 years ago with the new hornady puller.

That was my second bad experience with someone elses reloads.

Charge weights were all over the map with what LOOKED like 335 in some and 4064 in others.

Should have took pictures of how clumpy some of that powder was.

Labeled the reloading manuals for quick reference.

Saw that my .223 case gauge is covered in rust, now... ugh
In original cardboard box with instructions (certainly held the moisture in). had it in a different* tupperware box my .223 seating die was in that I found rust on yesterday.

Hadn’t loaded .223 in maybe a year so need to check and oil all tools, periodically
I load in a 100yr old + non insulated shed but I keep a low heat going all winter

Anyway, finished loading 60 rds of the 62 gr blems this a.m.

In the last two days between my brother an myself.

We joined an actual gun range....... added 30 pieces of 45 acp range pick up once fired brass to the stocks

13 guns we've fired 1200 rounds to make empty brass.

Loaded 40 rounds of precision 308.

Loaded 70 rounds of good 223.

"Proven" at least to ourselves having sized your brass "correctly" eliminates flattened & backed out primers in ammo that's otherwise loaded correctly.

Got 13 more guns ready to go for tomorrow.

13 rifles 7 hours on the range making Empty brass.

Finally made progress developing a load for 223 with 53 v max looks like 24-24.5gr of 335  is going to be the sweet spot for wide variety of guns.

25gr shot exceedingly well in one gun but not so much in the rest.

I finally got to melt some lead today, and it was (mostly) successful.  I had a couple of issues, despite pre planning an plenty of study,  Nothing major, really.

My biggest issue was that it is quite warm out today, and a little muggy feeling despite 50% humidity and a breeze, so I didn’t melt as much of my wheel weights as I wanted to.

Last night I finished up messing with the ingots I cast on Sunday.  I think I have about 18-20 pounds of alloy at the moment.

The hassles I had with managing a muffin tin for ingot molding wound up making the tin an additional chore rather than a work saver.  And the muffin-shaped ingots, while all shiny and stuff, aren’t very conveniently sized or shaped.  I’m ordering a Lee ingot mold to use for the rest of my wheel weight rendering.

Removed my 1st, and hopefully last stuck case(.223).

Glad I read a little on this before it happened, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Building a stuck case remover into the die...Awesome I found out it was there about a week ago (noobs).

Moved into a new (to me) house over a year ago.
Had to set up metal and wood shops.
New sub-panel for both, but the 30 feet of 30 inch x 30 inch by 30 inch deep storage cabinets I had before did not come with me.
No place to put them anyway.

I was throwing some stuff on some shelves and found three cases of FMJ (two 230 gr. .45, one 130 gr. .38 Super) in the 'wrong' pile.
They are the old 72 pound weight limit cases so many thousands of each bullet.

Busy day, for me anyway.

Loaded 500 .45 ACP w/ 225gr coated. Changed LP 550 press head to .308

Ran 250 new .308 cases through the size die to round out case mouths, chamfered the case mouths then tumbled lube off. Primed cases, ready to load.

Deprimed 200 once fired LC .308 cases, in tumbler now.

Sorted 300 once fired LC .308 brass by year. Ready to process.

Changed out SP 550 head from .300 BO to .32 H&R Mag to get ready to load.

Processed 233 pieces of M1 Carbine brass:

F.A.R.T. tumbled
Sized and primed
and then to the Giraud.

I love my Giraud, but the .30 Carb is the most time consuming of all the calibers I trim, because of the extra step of using the shell holder to hold the brass.
